Aladdin is a street rat who lives his life hiding out and stealing to live. One day, the Princess, unhappy with her rich lifestyle, takes to the streets to have a good time, but ends up upsetting a shop keeper. Aladdin swings in to help her out, claiming her to be his slow sister. This causes a bond between the two. However, Jafar (the sultan's Grand Vizier, who wants to become Jasmin's wife and take over and rule the land), finds out about Aladdin and Jasmin, and orders him to be thrown in jail. Jafar had recently been to a mystical place in the desert, where the entrance to a cave full of wonders and a magic lamp is hidden away. Jafar learns that Aladdin is the only one who can enter the chamber without being killed. .

Jafar disguises himself as an old prisoner in the same prison as Aladdin, and helps him escape. Then he takes him to the cave, promising riches beyond his wildest dreams. He tells him he can take whatever he wants, but the lamp must be delivered to him before he touches any riches. Aladdin does this, but Abu's greed causes the cave to begin to crumble down. Aladdin reaches the mouth of the cave and delivers the lamp to the old man. The old man then neglects to save Aladdin and he tumbles down into an inescapable pit.

All hope is lost until Aladdin finds out that Abu quickly switched the lamp back. Aladdin then releases the Genie inside, who grants him 3 wishes. Aladdin uses these wishes to try to marry Jasmine, who doesn't take Aladdin acting like something he's not so kindly. Soon, Jafar captures the genie and makes him do his bidding. Aladdin takes down Jafar and wins his woman, but discovers that the genie is not a free entity, and once Aladdin uses his last wish, he will be sucked back into the lamp. With his last wish, Aladdin frees the genie.
