Filled to the brim with testosterone and cheesy-but-memorable one-liners, James Cameron decided to compliment the original Alien movie rather than attempt to better it. The resulting celebration of military hardware and explosive set pieces still manages to give the species from the original movie even more of a backstory and menace. Sigourney Weaver's portray of Ellen Ripley blossoming from a survivor to a fighter is a joy to behold. The movie is by no means a dumb shoot-em-up, drawing some deep parallels between mother and daughter on both the human and alien halves of the movie itself. Practical effects still look superb, especially the highly impressive finale. Recommended.
