Turns out that all the events which just transpired in the story were a mere dream. This can be incredibly frustrating for the audience if done poorly.
Pulling an "All Just a Dream" ending can seem like a hell of a cop-out, especially if it's at the end of a long television show which viewers have invested a lot of time in, and can be a jumping the shark moment. If done well, it can be a shocking twist which elevates the material.
