Amy Adams, noted spitting image of Joplin, displays her jewel-encrusted necklace at last year's Oscars. (To the photobomber in yellow, call me.)
The news is being reported by Deadline, who say the news was leaked by Twilight producer Wyck Godfrey in an interview yesterday. There have been a couple of other casting rumors for that part floating around as of late, namely that both Pink and Zoey Deschanel had read for the part, and for once I thought the latter might have found the perfect role to bring her unique brand of pixie-like perma-stoned demeanor to. What's important to remember, though, is that nobody really saw Charlize Theron's performance in Monster coming, so perhaps that South African bombshell can give Adams a few tips on how to really look like she's hit rock bottom.
The movie is being headed by City of God and The Constant Gardener director Fernando Meirelles, a man who really knows how to spin a compelling tale, often with an overarching moral theme. The moral of this film, I imagine, will be not to time travel back to San Francisco in the 60s and do enough drugs to kill a horse.
