"Wait, they picked ME? *I* don't even know who I am."
Another day, another Spider-Man casting rumor. Wait a minute...there's a press release? This is official? I don't have to read about all this casting drama anymore? Thank the Maker!

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, it looks like one Andrew Garfield is your new web-slinger and wall-crawler. Deadline has the full press release, should you care to read it. The British Garfield has been around for a while, apparently, albeit mostly in movies I haven't seen; it looks like he'll be in the upcoming The Social Network and will star in Never Let Me Go. The Spider-Man reboot will start production in December and will be hitting movie screens in 3D on July 3rd, 2012. Thanks to G-Man over at Comicvine for pointing this out to us.

I really hope that they don't do the same thing with Peter Parker like they did in the trilogy. He was a likable character, but the whole purpose of Spider-Man is to be a smarmy, funny jackass who takes every encounter really lightheartedly until they show to be strong and he's like, "oh, damn." I want more of that.

i just want to say, andrew garfield was in a film called Boy A, and it is amazing. Out of the other actors that might have been picked for this role, he is the one with the most talent. I urge everyone reading this to watch Boy A, as altough the storyline most definetly does not correlate in any way to peter parker, it is incredible. Those who think this is a bad choice because he's in films you have not heard of are complete fools/

p.s. i'm very, very drunk

So why did they decide to re-boot Spiderman this early? Did Tobey Maguire become to expensive?

Eh, don't be so cynical people.  For an actor to stand out they just need to be in the right movie.  Just because we have no idea who this is, doesn't mean he can't do alright.  He's following orders and reading lines after all, unless he's an idiot, what could go wrong.

I just looked on his IMDb and he's in his late 20s. I thought they were going for a teenager?

I've got a bad feeling about this whole reboot.

We wanted an unknown, and this guy's the unknown. Sony created the excellent animated series Spectacular Spider-man and  are basing this series off the great comic series Ultimate Spider-man, so I trust them. Marc Webb directed the amazing 500 days of Summer which capture comedy and young drama perfectly, so I trust Webb.

We've come to a point were it can be great or terrible. All we know is EVERYONE of us will see it. So the arguing can stop till then.

A teenage spiderman would ruin it once and for all.

HEY LET'S ALL DISMISS THE NEW SPIDER-MAN ACTOR AS BEING WORTHWHILE BECAUSE WE DON'T KNOW WHAT MOVIES HE HAS DONE AND THAT MAKES US ANGRY!!!

I knew he looked familiar, but I couldn't remember from where.  Checked out his IMDb, and he was Todd in Lions for Lambs.  I remember thinking he did a good job in that shitacular movie.

Other than that, more than willing to give him a chance.

This movie already feels like one big commercial (if that makes any sense).

@Dylabaloo:  There was apparently a lot of tension on the set of Spider-Man 3 and virtually no one enjoyed the experience of filming it.

He looks like a dopey Tobey Maguire. Anyway, I was against this reboot from the start. Hollywood just doesn't know when to stop. They only care about their wallets and this movie looks like it will be engineered to be another marketing tool for more Spider-Man merchandise. I am 90% sure about this.
