 How you like them apples?
Harvest time has begun for Apple family members across Equestria- and at Sweet Apple Acres there is an enormous amount of them ripe for the picking. Normally, Applejack and her older brother, Big Macintosh, would harvest the apples together: however Macintosh has hurt himself and cannot work. Though this doesn't stop his stubborn and loyal sister from making a rather rash decision. She will harvest all the apples on the farm, all by herself, by the end of the season, and nobody can talk her out of it.

Meanwhile, back in Ponyville, Rainbow Dash alerts the townsfolk of an approaching stampede of spooked cattle. While everyone takes shelter, Applejack and her herding dog, Winona, intercept the cows and manage to drive them away from the town. Later that week, to honor Applejack's loyalty to the community, Pinkie Pie plans a party and the whole town helps put it together. However, Rainbow Dash notices that Applejack is missing and no one has seen her since the stampede. Twilight Sparkle attempts to give a lengthy speech, but keeps getting interrupted by her friends, who bring up how Applejack is going to help them in the coming days. After Twilight abandons her speech The Mayor begins to give the award to Applejack, only for it to be the revealed that she is a no-show. Though better late than never, Applejack walks out from the crowd: visibly exhausted and carrying a load of apples. She drags off with her award, though her friends (excluding the oblivious Pinkie Pie) begin to show concern for her well-being.

Back at the farm, Applejack is still tired but continues to buck the apple trees. Twilight arrives and is informed of her situation. Being told that she is the only one working, Twilight offers to help, but Applejack takes as an insult to her abilities. Later, Applejack meets up with Rainbow Dash to help her perfect a new stunt; which requires her to be launched from catapult. But Applejack is so unfocused, that she fails to give Rainbow the proper lift-off. Eventually, Applejack manages to launch Rainbow Dash into the air,but since she is unprepared, Rainbow only ends up crashing onto Twilight Sparkle's balcony.  Twilight goes back to the farm to try and convince Applejack that she does need help; using what happened to Rainbow Dash as an example that she is working too hard. Applejack, again, turns down the offer and instead stumbles off to go help Pinkie Pie.

Afterwords, Applejack goes out to meet with Fluttershy, bringing Winona with her. She is asked to help round up, and take account of, all the new baby bunnies and their families. Despite being instructed that she needs to be gentle, Applejack instead uses her normal herding tactics and only ends up scaring the flock. This causes another stampede to occur; this one going through town. Twilight arrives on the scene, and is confused by the townsfolk's shock to an overall normal atmosphere. Though after viewing the damages done to the town's gardens, Twilight decides that enough is enough. Twilight goes back to the farm one last time to confront Applejack. She informs Applejack that her tiredness has not only affected her well-being, but also the well-being of everyone in town. Again, she demands that she gets help. But with one buck, Applejack manages to clear the 'last' apple tree on the farm. But her victory is short lived, as Big Macintosh comes by and points out that she is far from done. Overwhelmed and exhausted, Applejack faints.

When she comes to, Twilight lets her know that she respects the loyalism of the Apple family, but that she needs to put aside her stubborn behavior and just ask for help. Applejack finally agrees, and begs Twilight to help. Twilight and the rest of the gang agree and start harvesting the remaining apples. Twilight writes to Princess Celestia about her friend's willingness to help others but refusal to seek help for herself. She writes that "while friendship is about giving of ourselves to friends, it's also about accepting what our friends have to offer." Taking a much deserved break, Applejack thanks the girls for coming to her aide and apologizes for her behavior. Spike also stops by, and offers a snack to the girls: the nasty muffins that Pinkie Pie had thrown away. Grossed out, they turn away from Spike and get back to work.
