I had heard some of the negative buzz going around
Bad Teacher before I saw it, so I wasn't going to the theater with any high expectations. After watching the film, I came to the conclusion that
Bad Teacher wasn't a bad movie at all, but I wasn't impressed by it either. I really, really like the premise of the film - the protagonist is a woman with a cruel and selfish personality, something you rarely see in Hollywood (or any kind) of movies. While the execution of the premise still guaranteed a very black comedy, it never seemed to me that
Bad Teacher would cross the line. It's certainly a much braver film than most of the stuff you see today and
Cameron Diaz finally gets a role that she's quite good in, yet
Bad Teacher suffers from one very important problem - it just wasn't that funny. There are fine jokes here and there, ones that you will most definitely smile at, but there's nothing here that can be classified as great humor. If you've seen the trailers for
Bad Teacher, you know entirely what to expect of this movie - a light comedy about a very cruel, evil and horrible human being. I like to stand up for brave and dark comedies like Bad Teacher, but this one just didn't work that well for me. I enjoyed the
Kevin Butler cameo a lot though.
