Beast Wars: Transformers

Overview:

Optimus has no choice but to fight Dinobot and his challenge for the Maximal leadership since Dinobot is blocking their way home. The two begin to sword fight precariously perched over a land bridge with Optimus slowly showing dominance despite Dinobot's skills and speed. When Dinobot is nearly defeated he tells Optimus to end it but he refuses to kill him and the battle continues. Despite the slight advantage Optimus stumbles off the ledge and is only barely able to keep himself from falling over. Dinobot appears over him and instead of killing him like Optimus expects a Predacon to do, he helps him up. Dinobot says there would be no honor in winning the fight that way and the battle continues.

Maximals looking at raw energon

As the two fight Megatron and the Predacons notice the battle and decide to take their chance to kill both the traitor Dinobot and Optimus. They open fire with every weapon they have from a cliff face above which sends both Dinobot and Optimus over the edge again with Optimus barely hanging on. As the rest of the Maximals rescue Optimus and Dinobot and provide cover as the escape the collapsing land bridge. Despite failing to kill any Maximal, Megatron notices their fire has caused an explosion on a nearby mountain, revealing a pile of pure raw energon.

Now the two sides begin to race to the energon, forced mainly to stay in their beast modes since the energon causes interference with their robot forms. Optimus allows Dinobot a spot on the Maximal squad despite some of Rattrap's arguments that a Predacon shouldn't be trusted. The Maximal team has some rifts among themselves especially when the Predacon flyers, Waspinator and Terrorsaur, attack the team. Despite the rifts they are able to make it to the energon at the same time Megatron and his team do.

The two sides square off in their beast modes, with everyone taking on an opponent and Optimus taking on Megatron. Both are able to damage one another but Megatron refuses to surrender and sends a missile at Optimus which is only deflected at the last moment by Dinobot. The missile hits the sensitive energon and everyone is forced to flee as it explodes. Optimus thanks Dinobot for saving his life but Dinobot says he was only getting even with Optimus since he owed him from before. Cheetor asks Optimus is he thinks the explosion, which they think might have damaged some of the Predacons if not outright killed them, would end their scuffles with them. Optimus states it's only the beginning of the beast wars.
