Trivia:

The priest in the beginning had four goons. Coincidentally, the real names of those extras are Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, with our main character, real actor's name Paul, in the mix.

Reference: Predator

When the German drinking team is threatened physically, one member uses the line "Kill me, come on, do it now, kill me what are you waiting for?" which is quite similar to the line Major Alan "Dutch" Schaefer used when facing off against a Predator.

Beerfest opens with Jan Wolfhouse playing a game of quarters against a shady looking man. When Jan loses he asks for a chance to win his money back, and the man agrees, but Jan has to make a shot into a narrow vase. When Jan makes the shot, the man realizes he was being hustled by Jan, and attempts to beat him, but Jan’s brother Todd enters in time to stop any harm. Todd reveals that the shady man is in fact a priest and that they are at their grandfather Johan’s funeral. After the ceremony Jan and Todd’s great grandmother, Great Gam Gam, tells the brothers that they have to travel to Munich, Germany where they have to fulfill the family tradition of bringing their grandfather’s ashes to the family resting place during Oktoberfest.

While in Munich they partake in Oktoberfest activities while waiting for Mr. Schniedelwichsen who will bring them to the family resting place. While waiting for Schniedelwichsen in tent drinking, they unintentionally start a brawl that results in the entire tent collapsing and a stampede of people. Schniedelwichsen finds the brothers and leads them to an underground drinking competition known as “Beerfest”, where countries gather from around the world to compete in drinking games. Schniedelwichsen reveals that the Wolfhouse brothers are related to the German Team, the Wolfhausens; led by Wolfgang von Wolfhausen the owner of the Von Wolfhausen Brewery . The German team, furious that Schniedelwichsen brought outsiders to Beerfest, has Schniedelwichsen shot and reveals to the Wolfhouses that their grandfather was a stable boy who stole the recipe for “the greatest beer in all the world” and ran away with his prostitute mother, Gam Gam. The Wolfhouses challenge the Germans to a drinking competition and lose, and are covered with the ashes of their grandfather.

The Wolfhouse brothers return to their bar, Schnitzengiggles, in America, where they swear revenge and decide to create a team to beat the Germans at the next Beerfest. Their first recruit is Phil “Landfill” Krundle, a former brewery worker and professional eater, who they find at a hot dog eating competition. After Landfill wins the competition, Jan and Todd confront Landfill about the competition and he immediately joins due to his love of beer. Their next recruit is Charlie “Fink” Finkelstein, a Jewish scientist who is an old college friend of Jan and Todd. Fink is hesitant on joining the team until he is told they are competing against the Germans, after which he willingly joins. The last recruit is Barry Badrinath, a former college friend who is an expert on drinking games. They find Barry underneath a bridge and realize he is working as a male prostitute. They tell him about the competition and ask him to test his skills at quarters to see if he still has it. Barry, unable to sink a single quarter, breaks a bottle and chases everyone from under the bridge.

While the team contemplates who to get to replace Barry while drinking in Schnitzengiggles, Barry stumbles into the bar and says that he wants to be on the team. He then proves he still has skills by launching quarters all over the room, which all land into beers, getting consecutive bull’s-eyes on a dartboard and breaking and sinking all of the balls in a single shot on a pool table. With their team complete the group begins training by drinking massive amounts of beer, high altitude training, drinking “rams piss”, and crashing a high school party.

The group inadvertently discovers that the recipe for “the greatest beer in all the world” was stored in Johan’s childhood doll Popo. The group uses this recipe to brew the beer out of their restaurant and sell it as “Schnitzengiggle Brew” or “Schnitz”.

The Germans get a bottle of Schnitzs delivered to them, and when Wolfgang realizes that they have the recipe, he gathers the German team to retrieve the recipe. The Germans use various tactics to get the recipe such as offering to pay for the recipe, trying to win via beer pong, and framing the restaurant for having low sanitation standards.

The team begins to disband as Barry can’t play beer pong anymore, Fink gets fired from the lab, and Landfills wife leaves him. Landfill enters the team’s training room to remember the good times, when he sees Cherry, Gam   Gam’s nurse, stealing a recipe off Fink’s computer. Landfill tries to stop her and fails when Cherry pushes him into a vat of beer, where he drowns.

After Landfill’s funeral the team decides to go their separate ways, but Great Gam Gam rejuvenates the team morale after revealing to the team that Jan and Todd are the true heirs to Von Wolfhausen Brewery. Just as the team contemplates who to replace Landfill with, Landfill’s twin brother Gil enters and asks to join the team and be called Landfill as a tribute to his brother.

The team travels to Germany where Jan and Todd have forgotten the location of Beerfest. Fink suggests that since they were drunk when they went to the location the first time, that if they got drunk again they could remember the location again. The team gets Todd drunk and he leads them to the location, where they realize they don’t have the password to get in. The team uses and empty beer keg as a Trojan horse to gain entrance, where they are initially denied entrance into the competition. After convincing the crowd of their Von Wolfhausen lineage, the team is granted entry into the competition.

Both the Americans and the German make it to the finals where they tie, resulting in a tiebreaker of a boat race with Das Boot anchors. The teams are neck and neck until they get to the boots, when Cherry tells Gil about how she killed his brother, causing Gil to spill and the team to lose.

Jan proposes a rematch against the Germans offering up the recipe if the Germans win and if the Americans win, they get the Von Wolfhausen brewery. The Germans tell Jan that they already have the recipe that Cherry stole and thus no need for a rematch, but Fink informs the Germans that they stole the recipe for a low-carb strawberry beer, leading Wolfgang to have Cherry killed. The Germans accept the challenge of a five boot boat race. Before the race begins one of the Von Wolfhausens knocks off Fink's yarmulke putting Fink into a state of rage giving him to get the “eye of the Jew”, where his left pupil becomes a glowing Star of David. Finks rage brings the team a close victory over the Germans, winning the Wolfhouse’s the brewery.

The team celebrates their victory in Amsterdam, where they run into Willie Nelson, who after his team mates Cheech and Chong failed to show, asks the team to join his pot smoking team. The team immediately agrees, and the film ends with a smoke filled screen with the words “Coming Soon – Potfest”.
