Besties: Midnight Run

One of the 80's best buddy films never got a sequel, but that's fine since Midnight Run is a damn fine entertaining movie on its own merits. Is this the best bounty hunting movie ever made?

Perfect Bestie. Easily Robert De Niro's best comedy.

Definitely better then the Beethoven movies.

Um Midnight Run got a sequel, in fact it got a bunch of em. They were all crap being TV movies (kinda like the Smokey and Bandit around the same time), but they were sequels none the less, with Christopher McDonald playing the lead role

Great pick Rorie, really loved this film when I was younger.

I mention that in the video. I don't consider them real sequels.

@Rorie:

Actually the guy who wrote the first film, served as an executive producer on the TV movies .

I'm always getting the Midnight Runs...

I kept renting this in high school but always see the first 20 or so minutes due to stuff coming up or not having time to watch. Seriously, just had the worst luck with this film. Now is the time to finally see this!

I'll check this out for sure and added it to my Q. I'm 2/2 so far on the Besties (for movies I haven't seen yet)

Great movie, truly a bestie!

An interesting choice for a Bestie. Nice to be reminded of this one, been ages since I've seen it.

Just to add, nice job on the video all around. Rorie seems to be taking more time with his speech and sounds a bit more clear to me. Hope that doesn't sound odd.

God this movie is so good, another great choice for the Besties.

Gotta love Charles Grodin.

Damn, I need to rent Midnight Run again. It's been a loooong time since I've watched this classic front to back.

crithonon Jan. 29, 2012 at 7:33 p.m.

ugh, I respect your choice, but I do feel kinda beaten to death for the past 25 how FABULIOUS this film is, but I still just kinda feel like it's a bit too bland for something to be well regarded.

Just watched this a few months back, still an amazing movie.

Though while watching it, I started to feel bad for Charles Grodin and his career. He's such a great straight-man, and can pull some of the best reactions to the varying levels of insanity around him, he is one of my all time favourite Letterman guests because Dave would spend the entire interview just trying to get a rise out of Grodin. I always love watching him in The Great Muppet Caper for his often times underwhelming reactions to the Muppets' antics.

To be fair, I think he kinda retired after his CNBC show went off the air. (Said show was pretty great.)
