It's about time for this. This and Episode V are still my favorites in the series. Jedi was all right and the prequels were all pretty good as well but the first two will always be the best. I can now say I like Darth Vader yelling NO! in ROTJ.

Yeah, I guess this is a Bestie (heavy sarcasm). Great beginning to this video with the description of the making of the film. I actually didn't know some of that stuff, and I thought I knew everything about this movie. I also really liked the reasons Rorie gave about why this movie is as great as it is. If someone asked me I think I would just say "It's fucking Star Wars!" Not as eloquent, I admit. Great video!

LokitheNightlordon Sept. 28, 2011 at 12:15 p.m.

I'm glad you finally did the first Star Wars film (not meaning Phantom Menace) as a Besties episode, although I prefer Empire Strikes Back, this film is still awesome.
However, how come you didn't do The Thing? Seeing as it said you'd be doing it as a Bestie before this one came out.
RockinKemosabeon Sept. 28, 2011 at 12:16 p.m.

This is my favorite Star Wars film, even better than Empire Strikes Back. Yeah, I said it.

Edit: Also when Star Wars was first released I don't think it had the episode IV attached to it during the title crawl.

Empire is my favorite film of all time, but Star Wars is easily one of the most creative and perfect tellings of the classic Hero's Journey ever made. Kids don't realize that's why it's such an amazing movie, but the classic mythology influence really makes the story timeless.

ArbitraryWateron Sept. 28, 2011 at 12:39 p.m.

As a random FYI, it was just called Star Wars until the special editions came out, when they added the Episode IV: A New Hope subtitle.

Same here. I can see why Empire better, but there is a loss of that magic. Oh and the whole stupid worm bit.

WiqidBritton Sept. 28, 2011 at 12:49 p.m.

I would say that the lack of a Solo-esque character was one of the major problems with the prequels, but there are so many problems with the prequels that it's pointless to even mention that.

great video rorie (don't get cocky!)

OldGuyon Sept. 28, 2011 at 12:59 p.m.
@Rorie: RockinKemosabe and ArbitraryWater are right, do not give in to the Lucas' tinkering! This movie is just Star Wars. Period. Full Stop. The End.

You didn't call Raiders of the Lost Ark "Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark", even though that's how it is on any current release...

Alex filmed The Thing when he was here for the BBLSL. Should go up the week of the sequel coming out.

Tartaruson Sept. 28, 2011 at 1:09 p.m.

Didn't he have a really vague idea of the prequel films before he made these and then gave them all numbered titles when he knew for sure he was going to make Episode 1, like the poster above said I think he just added in the numbers in later editions.

Anyway this film is great so are all the original trilogy films even if Return of the Jedi is silly and nonsensical at times. The original special effects still look great even for 1977.

TekZeroon Sept. 28, 2011 at 1:13 p.m.

I always thought that making a true sequel trilogy (episodes 7.8.9) was the way to go.

LiquidSwordson Sept. 28, 2011 at 1:15 p.m.

One of my first memories was seeing this and Empires Strikes Back on ON TV (don't ask what this is :D ). Like Rorie said, despite the adds GL made, this movie is still one of the best!

Dat Bestie ending!

Korneon Sept. 28, 2011 at 1:17 p.m.

Definitely the best in the series. So much is good about it. The comedy hits, the universe feels big, and the sense of adventure never lets up. I mean, Rorie didn't even mention the trench run, which is one of my favorite special effect scenes of all time.

Bummeyon Sept. 28, 2011 at 1:21 p.m.

The poster in the background looks like it says "A long time ago in a galaxy jar jar away..." :(

Little_Socrateson Sept. 28, 2011 at 1:32 p.m.

No question, this is a serious Bestie, over any of the other films in the series (and, ostensibly, maybe any other film in the genre.) If I asked someone what they thought was the best movie of all time and they answered "A New Hope," I would accept that as a great response.

With Empire, I feel like parts of the film were beyond the best stuff in A New Hope, but too much of that film is bogged down with boring ice battles and melodrama.

MooseyMcManon Sept. 28, 2011 at 1:33 p.m.

Wasn't the movie just called "Star Wars" when it was originally in theaters? I wanna say it wasn't until it was a hit that it got renamed.
