Yikes. I've never even heard of this! Charlie Sheen has a weird resume.
jimjimmanon March 8, 2011 at 5:16 p.m.

The Arrival was definitely the best alien invasion movie from 1996.

Sorry Alex, for the first time I disagree with you. I'll give the movie props on special effects with the aliens legs and the whole scene where Charlie get's his new skin but over all I just didn't find this movie worth a second viewing. Maybe some day when it's on Sci-Fi but for now it stays on the shelf.

I've never even heard of this thing, but it looks really interesting! And old Charlie doesn't look half bad in it, either.

Wow, is that Richard Schiff of The West Wing fame?
*checks actor page*
It is! Love that man!

This seems much more like a "Defending Your Movie" than a "Besties".

I saw this on TV a year or so back, originally baffled and intrigued by Sheen's goatee, I stayed for the quality of the strange sci-fi. It is certainly a lost gem.

Those were some freaky ass puppets. I think I remember seeing the Arrival once about a year or two after it came to TV over here in Europe. I don't remember much of the plot but I do remember kinda liking it, mainly because I liked the idea of geeky NASA scientist saving the world.

The Mass Effect 2 DLC?? Oh..no.. instead of more Martin, I get Charlie. Why must you ruin everything, Charlie, why???

I never knew the title of this movie I saw it ages ago on tv and rather enjoyed it.
Why no mention of the crazy vacuume/void/black hole granade thing that suck up everything in his atic setup? (even a poor bird outside his windo)

this looks fairly interesting.

4 minutes 38 seconds = Pre-eminent Gordon Freeman

man sheen looks so weird in this movie to me for some reason.
LiquidSwordson March 8, 2011 at 6:19 p.m.
A definite overlooked film of the 90's. "Communion" with Christopher Walken was another low key alien movie.

Man, Sheen looks like Dante from Clerks in more than a few parts of this movie.

The flick is fun stuff -- certainly smarter than IDF4! -- but it never really seemed all that... I dunno. essential. I think, in fact, that sums up almost every movie Sheen was in between 1991 and 2000:

The Chase -- Fun, but inessential.

The Arrival -- Fun, but inessential.

Hot Shots -- A whole lot of fun, but the creaky political references kinda leave it... hollow. Inessential, if you will.

Terminal Velocity -- A laugh fucking riot... but not for the right reasons. Fun, inessential, but a half-great turn from a pre-Sopranos Gandolfini.

Is this really Hall of Besties material?
FengShuiGodon March 8, 2011 at 7:02 p.m.
I saw bits of this awhile ago, but I might check it out now.

Also, fun movie fact: those black scorpions are emperor scorpions. You see them used in every movie ever that has lethal death dealing mega evil scorpions in it. Their sting only feels like a bee sting though, and unless you are allergic to them (which is unlikely), you would be fine if one stung you. /nerd

I give props to Screened for not populating their 'best of' tombs with the exact same films as every other publication/website... But this film strikes me as a 'defending your movie' candidate more than a 'Besties' inductee.

Alex, Rory, please listen to me. You now have 2 movies in your besties that have Charlie Sheen in it....I will let that sink in....And to this point you have ignored Kurt Russell, more specifically the movie Tombstone and all it badassness. I submit you are not to do anything else until this is rectified.

No, I say that Wall Street gets selected, so we can all have MORE SHEEN!

The winners™ of Screened demand it.

EDIT: OH man! I remember this movie, if anything for the great 90s future-sunglasses.

This is the first 'Bestie' to feature Charlie Sheen. The other one, Chase, was in 'Defending Your Movie'

@Abyssfull: I stand firmly corrected. Thanks. My request still stands though. Tombstone or bust!
