I remember years ago, Wesley Snipes was trying to get one of these made.

I doubt Marvel/Disney will go this route, but I'd like to see a blacksploitation-satire approach to the film sort of like Black Dynamite. Give it a 70's vibe like all those grindhouse homages that came out over the last few years. Then again, maybe that would be a better idea for a Power Man & Iron Fist movie. It might be more appropriate but it also seems cliche. I kind of like the idea of mixing costumed superheroes with 70's styled action.

especially since Black Panther was never a ghetto, blacksploitation character. I think I remember seeing you on comicvine so I assume you are aware that he is an African monarch who didn't even travel to America until he was an adult.

Yeah, I know who he is. I was an avid reader of the Fantastic Four when I collected, so obviously I ran into him. It's just that after the failure of the Green Lantern movie I was thinking about how to mix up the types of superhero movies being made. Since the GL movie was originally more of a comedy with Jack Black, I was wondering if all superhero comic movies need to be the same. Basically, all of them have had the same tone and style since the early 2000s. The Nolan films go a darker, but everything else is just a match for Spiderman and the X-Men. I'm not endorsing a return to the Joel Schumacher fiascoes, but I'd like for a little more variety among the repertoire. My fear is that since Marvel seems to have found a winning formula, they're going to beat it to death.

Based on their successes on directing The Avengers, and Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, I would love to have either Joss Whedon, or Brad Bird to direct the movie, and that's because I absolutely loved both movies. I don't read comic books, and because of that, I have never heard of The Black Panther. If this movie gets made, then it will be a brand new Superhero movie experience for me, and that always excites me.

@VioletEyedDragon: @DoctorDanger99: What is this racism that you are referring to?

I am not attempting to race bait or be controversial with my opinion. I have never stated that a black director should make this film just because the character is black. The fact is, black characters in Hollywood are often fitted into negative stereotypes, like being hypersexual, or abusive, or buffoons. This is extremely unfortunate and needs to change, but it isn't changing because there haven't been many films that star a black character that is positive, or a hero. This film is a chance for this terrible Hollywood habit to break because Black Panther is a bonafide hero who does not possess any negative stereotypes, and we NEED more black characters like this in films. If Black Panther happens to be successful, then it will make Hollywood want to break its race barrier and allow more black heroes in its movies. The opportunity that this film possesses is more important than just another superhero movie. It has the ability to change the landscape of Hollywood. I don't believe that a white director would be unable to make a good Black Panther movie, or that a white director shouldn't be allowed direct this movie. The race of a director in no means defines his or her ability as a filmmaker. I just believe that a black director would bring more passion to this project because of the opportunity of letting a positive black character be the star of the show, and for the possibility of improving the opportunities of black actors that are locked in a "race box" the majority of the time.

If you were part of a community that is often at the bottom of the totem pole in film, and portrayed in a negative light, and you were given the opportunity to make a film that has the ability to change that then I guarantee that you would bring more passion to the film than a director who is not a part of that community.

@PenguinDust: that is overly simplifying it. Spider-man and X-Men were nothing alike. And I don't think changing the tone of the comics is a good idea. I am already mildly annoyed at how light the Avengers movies have been.

Ghost Protocol was awesome. As was The Incredibles.

the racism was where you said that white people didn't have any appreciation for important black people.

I think the actor who plays Black Panther should be black. I just don't see how the director and writers need to be.

And while I think there is a very narrow view of a Hollywood hero, black characters aren't universally portrayed poorly. There should be more of them, but the ones that do exist--like Agent J in Men in Black, Nick Fury in The Avengers, etc.--are generally positive. The problem is that there aren't enough of them. I think a large portion of this can be attributed to having the ones that do exist be associated with their skin-color to the point of making them seem inherently different from white characters. Agent J and Nick Fury are black characters who are hugely successful because their skin-color has no effect on their character.

But I totally agree there should be more black characters in film. It is just that I don't think it is necessary to ban all white people from the sets of movies starring black characters.

Wow, that is a terrible way of missing the point of everything he was saying.

@Black_Rose: Some people just build such strong convictions and opinions that they will tune out anything you say no matter how logical it is. Thank you for understanding what I am saying though.

I didn't think it was that kind of racial bias.

Obviously the director has to be half Mexican half Icelandic and you're all racist for not saying so.
