This unaired pilot was directed and funded out of pocket by Joss Whedon. He used the episode to pitch the show to networks. Once it was picked up by the WB the pilot was reshot with Riff Regan being replaced by Alyson Hannigan as Willow and Ken Lerner replacing Stephen Tobolowsky as Principal Flutie.
