Nah you are not really missing anything. Supernatural is a much better Horramedy (Horror/Drama/Comedy) show. Seasons 1 and 2 are the best though.

The first few seasons were great at the time, but I don't think they have aged well. It gets so much better!

I had my cringe-face on for just about the entire first season. The finale is the only thing I ever rewatched out of it. However, there is a dramatic rise in quality from season 2 and onward. And I don't mean that it goes from bad to mediocre. It goes from bad to fucking amazing by the end of the second season.

Honestly, I really think you really will be missing out if you don't give it a chance.

Edit: Just for the record, I thought "The Body" was the best directed episode of television. Ever.

S1 is not awful, its funny cheesy and enjoyable. The show dose get better and better right up to S8.
Just have a marathon with your friends, give it a chance. There's not that many episodes either. :)
And don't switch to Angel that show is second rate garbage.

As others have said, season 2 is where the show really finds it's footing.

Now all this talk about Buffy and Angel makes me really want to go back and watch them again.
