Carol Ferris is vice president of 'Ferris Aircrafts', she is an expert pilot and girlfriend of Hal Jordan. Over time she ultimately becomes the supervillain 'Star Sapphire' after gaining the Violet Power Ring.
Carol Ferris is the daughter of Carl Ferris, the former CEO of Ferris Aerospace. After her father retired from the job, she took it on herself. She is also the villain Star Sapphire in an entirely different personality of hers.
Carol possesses the Star Sapphire gem-stone (and later Violet power ring), powered by love, which grants her special powers not unlike those of the Green Lantern power ring. She can project concussive force through her gem, as well as create powerful constructs and force-fields with ease. The gem and ring give her a glowing violet aura that allows her to fly, gives her a high degree of invulnerability and allows her to survive in the vacuum of space.
A feature unique to the Violet Power Ring, is the ability to show whoever sees it's sparkling glow their hearts desire. It can also sense whenever true love is in jeopardy, the wearer will be pulled across the galaxy in order to save the heart of the victim.
Carol is a highly trained pilot and trained in aviation, being just as talented as Hal Jordan, however, she doesn't possess the fearlessness that he does. After taking over her Ferris Aircraft, she is shown to be skilled in business management and continues to keep the business thriving.
Star Sapphire joined Lex Luthor's Injustice Gang to destroy the Justice League and destroy Green Lantern. At first the idea of working with "common criminals" repelled her but the money Luthor promised each member of the team persuaded her otherwise. She and the Injustice Gang on their first mission traveled to the Watchtower to plant a bomb, the plan was foiled by the League and Luthor took his frustration out on the team. She was the first to quit but after Luthor promised to triple their pay she and the others stayed on. In the final battle against the League, she was defeated by John Stewart.
She later joined the second Injustice Gang led by Aresia the Amazon. She was enthusiastic about Aresia's plot to wipe out all of Earth's male population as she also had a hatred for men. She tricked Wonder Woman and Hawkgirl into following her back to an airport to stop Aresia but was secretly luring them into a trap and then subdued them and Hippolyta, the Queen of the Amazons and Wonder Woman's mother. She boarded the plane with Aresia and Tsukuri and chained Hippolyta up in a room onboard. When Aresia was about to launch her bio weapon into the air, she she said she could say goodbye to some very unpleasant men she had met.Wonder Woman and Hawkgirl attacked the plane and Carol was defeated by Wonder Woman, who grabbed one of the planes turrets and hurled it at Carol, flinging her into the sea.
In the adaptation of Darwyn Cooke's comic, Carol is shown to be CEO of Ferris Aircraft and is portrayed contrary to how women were viewed in that era. Carol was shown to a be strong independent woman contrary women's role as homemakers at that time. Like in the comic, Carol develops a romantic relationship with Hal Jordan-The Green Lantern.
Blake Lively will be playing Carol Ferris alongside Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan. Blake Lively was reportedly the producers top choice after seeing her screen test, the character of Carol Ferris was originally supposed to be older but was specifically made younger after Blake Lively had been casted.
Carol is the childhood friend of Hal Jordan and Hector Hammond. She is the vice-president of Ferris Aircrafts and one of their best pilots; the other being Hal. After becoming Green Lantern, Hal saves an out of control helicopter from killing Carol and later visits her at her office; where she immediately recognises the masked hero and so he confides in her with his secret. Carol is kidnapped by Hector, who's obsession with the beautiful pilot gives him the idea to possess her with the Parallax, but is stopped when Green Lantern arrives. In a climactic battle, Carol helps in distracting the Parallax, giving Hal long enough to gain his power ring (which was given to Hector) and in-turn defeat the powerful presence. The two share a passionate kiss at the air-base, with Hal telling her that his "new job" will keep him very busy, but he will always come back to her.
