• The main theme from A Bug's Life, another Pixar film, is used to open the teaser trailer for Cars.
• The Piston Cup is a reference to the Winston Cup, which is a famous race in NASCAR.
• The standard Pixar A-113 reference can be found on the train which almost smashes into Lightning McQueen when he hurriedly crosses the train tracks before ending up in Radiator Springs.
• The "95" Lightning McQueen sports refers to 1995, the year Toy Story, Pixar's first animated feature, was released. The "86" worn by Chick Hicks refers to 1986, the year Pixar was created.
• The Pizza Planet truck from the Toy Story series can briefly be seen in a crowd shot during the final race.
• The mountains making up the Cadillac Range surrounding Radiator Springs all resemble the back ends of classic Cadillacs.
