Plot Summary

Part 1

In the events of Stargate, Col. Jack O'Neill and Dr. Daniel Jackson went through the Stargate and arrived at the planet Abydos, under the control of the alien/god-impersonator Ra.  O'Neill and Jackson killed Ra using a nuclear weapon, freeing the people of Abydos from Ra's control.  Daniel Jackson decided to stay on Abydos, and Jack O'Neill returned to Earth.

One year later, several Air Force airmen are playing cards in a room with the Stargate, the use of which has been discontinued by the military, when the Stargate begins to activate.  Several enemies, similar to the enemies from Stargate, enter the room and kidnap the female airman and kill the others.  These enemies are the Goa'uld Lord Apophis and his soldiers known as Jaffa. The military, led by General George Hammond responds by contacting O'Neill and asking him about what happened on Abydos.  The military wants to send a nuke through the Stargate to destroy Abydos, because they think that these aliens came from there.  O'Neill agrees to go through the Stargate and contact Dr. Jackson to figure out what has happened and where these enemies came from.  He has a team consisting of the men from the first trip, Kowalsky and Ferretti, and Captain Samantha Carter, a airwoman and an astrophysicist.

On Abydos, the team meets Daniel and the Abydonians, including Daniel's wife, Sha're.  Dr Jackson tells them that these aliens did not come from Abydos.  He does show them a room, which contains a map that shows various destinations the Stargates can go.  While they are away, however, Apophis arrives at Abydos, and in similar fashion to Earth, kills many of the  Abydonians, kidnapping Sha're and her brother Skaara, injuring Ferretti.  Daniel Jackson agrees to return to Earth so that he can help find his wife, instructing the Abydonians to bury their Stargate for exactly one year, until he can come back.

Part 2

The airwoman from the beginning is brought before Apohis, where she learns that she is a candidate to be the host of Apophis' queen Amonet.  She fails and is killed.

Back on Earth, the injured Ferretti recovers and is able to reveal the address of the location Apophis retreated to.  General Hammond reveals that the President has authorized the creation of a series of SG teams under General Hammond's command as part of Stargate Command.  Col. O'Neill is given command of the team Known as SG-1,consisting of Daniel Jackson and Samantha Carter, and Kowalsky is given command of SG-2.  The teams travel to the planet that the aliens retreated to, and meet several monks.  They learn from the monks that there is a nearby city name Chulak, and the monks agree to take them there.

In Chulak, Apophis tests Sha're as the host for Amonet, and she is selected.  Also in Chulak, when SG-1 meets Apophis, accompanied by the now possessed Sha're, Daniel Jackson reveals who they are because he sees his wife, and they are thrown into prison.  In prison, they meet Skaara and learn about Apophis, the Jaffa, and Apophis' head Jaffa, Teal'c.  Apophis arrives to chose some more people for the implantation of a Goa'uld parasite, choosing Skaara, and commands Teal'c to kill all the others.

O'Neill tries to convince Teal'c to not kill the people, but to help them.  Teal'c, conflicted because he knows that Apophis is not a god, agrees to help them.  As they escape, they come under attack from Apophis' forces, but are saved by Kowalsky's men.  During the battle, a Goa'uld being incubated inside the pouch of a Jaffa, infests Kowalsky.  Everybody, including the teams and Teal'c escape back to earth,

Daniel and O'Neill reaffirm their determination to find Sha're and Skaara and rescue them before reporting to their debriefing. O'Neill also asks General Hammond that Teal'c become a member of their team but the General only says it is not for him to decide. As everyone is leaving the room with the Stargate (gateroom), Kawalsky's eyes glow.
