Christopher Nolan has became one of the most interesting players in the game over the last few years. His ability to craft incredibly unique and interesting films in the format of the gigantic blockbuster is second to none. It was with great excitement that I read he is working on the new Superman film. Don't get ahead of me, though, he will not be directing it. Rather, he's taken on what's being referred to as a "godfather" role to the franchise, and along with his co-producer Emma Thomas, is producing what is being called a complete reboot. Sorry if you wanted more of the Bryan Singer Superman Returns stuff.

Nolan and Thomas have now come up with a short list of directors they would like to see take on this reboot. From Deadline, they are:

Unstoppable's Tony Scott, Let Me In director Matt Reeves, Battle: Los Angeles helmer Jonathan Liebesman (who just got the Warner Bros/Legendary job of directing Clash of the Titans 2), Duncan Jones, who just directed Source Code, and Sucker Punch helmer Zack Snyder.

Tony Scott and Zack Snyder are the biggest names on that list, but I don't see either of them being a great fit. The most interesting person on that list, to me, is Duncan Jones. While I don't know much about his upcoming Source Code, the man directed Moon, which was one of my favorite films of last year.

I have trust in Nolan, though, to pick a winner.

Ew they're making a Clash of the Titans 2?

I think Superman getting a "300" Snyder treatment would look pretty damn cool. It would certainly make Superman, who I find incredibly dull, much more intriguing.

Please not Snyder. He'll make every super stylized to a fault and slow mo and boring and buhhhh

Possibly, but I don't think that's what people want when they want to see a Superman movie.  Besides, the character in general doesn't really fit Snyder's direction anyways as he calls for a more traditional style of storytelling.

Though I'll always say this:  If they ever make a Batman Beyond/Dark Knight Returns movie, I think Zack Snyder would be perfect for it.

The headline makes it out to be that this is news, you guys already reported about this. The talk is that Goyer and Jonathan Nolan is on the project too IIRC. Tho I guess the article itself is perhaps referring the news that they are now talking about who might direct this reboot; and not that Chris Nolan and Emma Thomas is involved in a Superman project, which the headline is referring to.

I myself is intrigued about the Nolan brothers involvement, but unless they come up with some really great ideas I just can't see me excited about Superman, i guess the years of Smallville and Returns has put out that spark for me.

Yes more work for Duncan Jones, I'd really like to see what he can do. While Moon was fantastic, I'd like to see what he can do with a very different environment.

Give it to Duncan Jones. He would approach it in a weird, introspective way. Superman is best when he's heady and not just punching things. Action will not make this movie a success. There's no drama in a Superman action scene.

I'm for Snyder and Nolan teaming up.  Nolans writing/themes mixed with Snyders direction/comic book passion sounds like the perfect team for a superman movie.

I would be fine with Christopher Nolan somewhat behind a superman film!

Snyder and Scott are both very visual directors with tremendous style, but I don't think they could do a great Superman movie. Call me crazy, but a little substance is needed.

Matt Reeves, I don't know. I liked Cloverfield, but Let Me In looks a little lame-ish. He's still got something to prove to me.

Battle: Los Angeles looks awesome to me, but I don't want the dude who previously directed Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning anywhere near a Superman movie. Sorry, bro.

Really, the only person I think who could do an intelligent, inspirational Superman movie is Duncan Jones. But he's new to the game too. I loved Moon, but it is a small, dramatic movie. Superman should be the ultimate blocbuster. I don't know that he can take on that responsibility this early in his film career. But I'd love to see him try.

This is a very odd, eclectic mix of directors. Honestly, I still think the best choice is Nolan himself, but if he won't do it, I'm sure he'll pick someone who can and make sure they don't fuck up.

We've had like five movies of Superman not fighting dudes. The last movie was all introspection.

I'm all for heady Superman, but I really think the world is ready to see him just fucking wreck some shit. And there is drama, you just have to give him the right opponent.

Non of this makes me wanna see another Superman movie. Boring ass character. There is nothing that can make him appealing in any way what-so-ever.

And I'm the only who thinks Nolan's Batmans suck just as much as the others?
I want a fucking detective, not a god damn gadget collection. I don't want Bat-mobile, Bat-bike or Bat-plane. I don't want bat attracting sonar-BS, Bat-gliders or armored Bat-suit. Detective. Period.
Fuck, this shit shouldn't make me angry but it does. Fuck Hollywood.

I hope this isn't true actually. Superman is not a dark character.

I'd love to see Zack Snyder taking the helm on this project, I thought Watchmen was just flat-out incredible, my favorite movie of last year.

Yep, Nolan's been tagged to this as part of the deal for signing on for a third Batman flick. I'm hyped, and it's probably the right choice for him not to direct. I like Snyder, but I don't know if Superman is a good fit. I defiantly don't want Tony Scott, especially the Tony Scott of the last few years.

Not to be a dick, but wasn't this announced, like, a while ago? Anyway, interested as always to see the results.

I'd just like to see the movie grounded in a little reality like Batman. Also, would this "reboot" be an origin story? I think that might work better where you don't have him weighted down.

I really enjoyed Moon and thought it was directed extremely well. A good mix of introversion and action are needed in my mind in the next superman. Seriously though, make Lex more like John Shea from New Adventures.

God I hate people who say this.

Because they speak from a position of total ignorance and haven't read any good Superman books, they assume that Superman is a dumb character.

At least read some shit and then spit some game.

Zack Snyder, maybe.  I really hope Tony Scott doesn't get it, because his style bothers me.  Snyder could make it great if he dials back the slo-mo just a bit.  Nolan would do a great job of reining him in.
