I was thinking about the Best Director category and who Nolan would replace if he was nominated. Then it struck me:
All of the director's have at least one actor/actress nominated for their films (Portman for Black Swan, Eisenberg for the Social Network, ect..). Nolan has none. More importantly, that's the one category where Inception honestly deserved to be excluded from. No one was bad, but no one was stand out amazing like James Franco or Colin Firth. The main attraction for Inception is the complexity of the story and the visuals.
I'm not saying this snub was legitimate, I'm just saying this is probably why it happened.
