I went to see this just a few hours ago and I liked it a lot. I thought the story could be a bit more deep but it was a different perspective of what if you have super powers kind of movie. I also enjoyed the filming technique with the use of home cameras, security cameras, tv news footage and so on. I am a sucker for that kind a thing. Oh and Alex is right. This movie has some pretty good real recreation of Akira scenes.

The idea of watching ignorant teenagers mess up other peoples' lives with unearned powers sounds like a terrible way to spend two good hours, but if Alex gives the movie 4 stars then I guess I'll give it a chance if it makes its way to Netflix Instant.

Akira was defiantly one of those movies that I was thinking about when I first saw the trailer to this film.

I read two good reviews for this movie today: one of the reviews was on this Web Site. I have to say I'm very intrigued, so I plan to check it out.

DC or Marvel need to get the writers and director working on their movies!

Wow, fairly surprised with this one. I was interested but now it is a total lock for the movie this weekend.

seconded gotta see it now.

Very happy to hear that this is good, the ads made it seem very uninteresting. I've had a free movie ticket in my pocket all throughout January waiting for something to come out, and now it has found it's use.

Seriously, how did this turn out to be good? It had all the makings of an AWFUL movie, and looked like yet another of those terrible power fantasy movies for young adults. Also an Emo kid.

Can't wait to see this!

I remember wishing I had super powers when I was a teenager, and imagining fantastic scenarios with what I would do with that power . This movie is like someone wrote down those random thoughts and made a kick-ass movie!

The first time I saw the promo for this, I didn't realize it was a movie. I thought it was just some stupid commercial for an energy drink or something. This review makes me think it might actually be worth seeing, though. I'm glad I read it.

Holy fuck , you just sold me so hard.

There were about four or five scenes where there just WAS no camera pointing in the direction that the shot was coming from. I'm not really a stickler for those things, but when you've made one of the continuity considerations an integral PART of the film, it's a bit lazy to leave out things like that. (One or two scenes near the end in the big climactic thingamabob felt like the director just REALLY wanted to get the shot but had no good reason for a camera to be there and just said "fuck it".)

Still a good movie, though. :)

It's too bad that it sounds like the found footage thing was stuck to so rigidly, because the unlikeliness of it will probably irk me by the end of the movie. Still seems interesting though.

Am I the only one who thought this movie would be good from the trailers?

Anyways, just got back from seeing it. It was great, but really, really dark.

Just got back from it, loved it. The found footage stuff is kinda tacked in, buuuuut I don't think it would've worked as well without it. It makes it feel less ridiculous unless you're the type of person that can't enjoy a movie that makes little mistakes.

Very glad to see that this came out good. Was really looking forward to it.

Can we just cancel that American remake of Akira and just let Chronicle be our live-action Americanized adaptation? I don't think you can do much better than this.

I just got back from this, and I have to say: it is a very good movie, and very much worth seeing, especially when shit starts going bananas in the third act. Man, it was pretty awesome.

I have a couple complaints though:

CGI was not terrific is some spots.

Isn't this supposed to be found footage? They had at least 10 cameras that shot this thing. Are you telling me it was edited together in some sort of crazy way? They found every goddamn camera and did that?

I thought it had a very interesting premise and the cast was pretty solid, but I just can't get past the fact that they needed to introduce a character who also happens to film things in the movie to justify a camera change. Perhaps if they had filmed the movie using more traditional means (not found footage) I would've liked it a bit more. Also I saw closer to the screen than I wanted so throughout the screening I felt very nauseating. That might've dampened the experience quite a bit. Agree with everything Alex said about the similarities with Akira.

Michael B Jordan is one of my favorite young actors, the dude is just amazing, ever since I saw him in The Wire and Friday Night Lights I've been a fan.
