I grew up a little late to experience Clint in his prime. I saw Gran Torino though, and that was really good.

So my question is, which old Eastwood movie is "the one to watch"?

If you're going to watch 2 old ones I'd pick Dirty Harry and The Good The Bad and The Ugly.

Cool. Those are the most popular but I wasn't sure if there was a better one. I'll definitely watch both.

While Dirty Harry is a good watch, I highly recommend the sequel Magnum Force. Dirty Harry now seems really outdated as it was the first of those kinds of badass cop movies. Magnum Force has a more interesting plot and a finale which includes Eastwood killing a man with a karate chop. Can't go wrong with that.

@JJWeatherman:  The Good the Bad and the Ugly

Absolute Power is, I think, a very underrated Eastwood film. Fantastic cast that includes Gene Hackman and Ed Harris, with an interesting plot.

@thepaleking: Definitely. There's a lot of Eastwood movies that end up underappreciated simply because of his more famous roles.

@HandsomeDead:
Yeah Magnum Force is great, it has a real  kind of "toughness" to it. And Harry gets a ton of really great lines in it.

The Good The Bad & The Ugly , Unforgiven and Dirty Harry are probably my picks though.

Those are the three I have watched since creating this thread, and man they were great. I can't believe I waited until now to watch them. The next one I plan to watch is Million Dollar Baby. Absolute Power sounds good too, so maybe that one after. I'm on an Eastwood bender!  :P

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly and Unforgiven are my picks.

The Outlaw Josey Wales.

Unforgiven, but you should probably watch Dirty Harry and The Good the Bad and the Ugly first. After those three you can go deeper into the Eastwood catalogue according to your tastes, but I'd say those three are the ones you have to see.

Depends on if you're talking about "Clint Eastwood movies" as movies he has starred in or movies he has directed.

The answer to either question is of course Unforgiven. But if you'd prefer more classical Eastwood, Dirty Harry and The Outlaw Josey Wales are both good choices.

Dirty Harry is a classic though. And it has that awesome long zoomout shot on the football field. I love that shit.

Ah yes, that scene was awesome. There's too many good suggestions now, I feel overwhelmed.  :P
