What is his "Primary Role"?

It's not always easy to to select a "Primary Role" for a person. Clint Eastwood has done a lot of stuff; which should be specified as his "Primary Role"?

I'd venture a guess at Dirty Harry or The Man with No Name (moreso the second), but that's my personal bias. I agree with you, the primary role is pretty hard to place for prolific actors.

I've hated every one of his films up until Gran Torino. He's not a very good actor.

Actor or Director, is what you are asking right?  I'm on the fence.

@ethan: Yeah, that's the sort of thing I was wondering about. But by being unclear it looks like I inadvertently started a productive conversation. :D

Everyone's entitled to their own opinion but Eastwood is a great actor. Always liked most of his movies. For A Few Dollars More, A Fistful of Dollars, Dirty Harry, Magnum Force and some others are my favorites . I didn't like Play Misty for Me, Paint Your Wagon, The Beguiled or Honkytonk Man though.
