I personally love it. I realize it's not a perfect movie by any means, but there's just something about it. It has a lot of charm mixed with pure awesomeness that makes it so much fun to watch. And that's really what movies are all about, is fun.

Although real movie critics seem to think differently. Just wondering how you guys weigh in on Cobra.

Back when Jeff first discussed Alex and him going to that sketchy house to watch it I picked up a copy and watched it with my cousin. Absolutely loved it as a result. So many ridiculous sequences, bad dialogue and general nonsense that it is a uniquely hilarious experience. Apparently because of that experience, my cousin also bought a copy and it is now pretty popular amongst his circle of friends as well. Thank-you Jeff Gerstmann for spreading the magic of Cobra.

Terrible.

It's part of the Ronald Reagan presidency-era cinema.  It carries a strong political message, as do other cop movies of its time, that continues today.  It suggests that it`s not due process or the courts that will save you; but that a lone, renegade cop, who doesn`t follow the rules, and his gun, that will save you.  Instead of reading you your Miranda rights, he just shoots you, maybe burns you alive.  it also suggests that crime is rampant and out of control, and that the beaurocracy has been rendered irrelevant.  It suggests that we need to leave the power of the law in the hands of police officers, and get rid of all these pesky `rights`.

If you think this movie is fun and campy stupidity, then all the best to you.  I hope you enjoy it solely on that level.  Just don`t fall for the message that these movies is giving you.  That all power should be left in the hands of the police, and that criminals shouldn`t have rights.  I find the message behind movies like this insidious, subliminal, and repulsive.

"Go ahead, I don't shop here". COME ON! And there are a bunch of robots during a modeling session but that isn't made apparent until later. I don't think it's possible to take this movie seriously.

Agreed! lol. Who honestly would give a second thought about some underlying message?

The opening scene is amazing and I love the shoot out before the foundry finale but I can't say I remember anything in between besides that I would fuck Brigette Nielsen and that guy who gets hit by the car has one of the best film deaths ever.

It's "You're a disease, and I'm the cure" THANK YOU VERY MUCH!  :P

I added another great one to the quotes page, can't remember exactly what it said though.

I just saw it for the first time the other night. I knew as soon as Stallone talks into the loudspeaker during the hostage scene & extremely gruff gibberish reverberates throughout the sound mix that I was in for some crazy shit.

I fell in love with the ridiculousness. However, I don't think the film really got anywhere near the end. It's also not very long either.

Some parts were funny, some parts didn't make much sense, and then some parts were boring... Every part was terrible. The funny parts weren't intended to be so... Haha.

Haven't seen the movie in awhile, so I'll reserve judgement >.>

@Arjuna:  To be fair, 70's movies really started that. A lot of cities had too much crime and not enough law enforcement, and that's what led to the popularity of the vigilante film. Dirty Harry especially shows the mistrust the average person in that time had for courts and the law. But yeah, the Reagan era definitely continued on that trend.
