Head of the RDA's security forces, Col. Quaritch is a tough-as-nails mercenary soldier with little regard for whoever might stand in his way. He has no love for the indigenous Na'vi or any other life on Pandora, having been given a wicked scar across the right side of his face
A career military man, Colonel Miles Quaritch is the mercenary chief of RDA's Hell's Gate security forces and the main antagonist of Avatar. Quaritch's history as a soldier begins on Earth some years before the events of the movie, when he serves in Nigeria with distinction and without injury. However, upon arriving on Pandora his first patrol ends in him receiving a vicious scar across the right side of his face from a local life form. It is perhaps this event more than any other that has shaped his negative attitude towards Pandora's indigenous life, which Quaritch has absolutely no regard for. 
 
When Jake Sully arrives at Hell's Gate and stumbles into the role of primary liaison between human and Na'vi, Quaritch recruits him to feed the RDA security detail intelligence on all Omaticaya defenses at their village of Hometree. He is instrumental in convincing Administrator Selfridge to attack the Omaticaya in order to get at the rich unobtanium deposit beneath their village and leads the assault team. When the tribe retreats to the Tree of Souls and rallies other Na'vi to their cause he orders the destruction of that site as well, but fails when his lead bomber is shot down. Quaritch engages in hand-to-hand combat with Jake and Neytiri in an AMP Suit and is finally defeated before killing Jake's human body.
