Oh, Commando. You are, in some ways, the perfect 80's film. You're ultra-violent, filled with awesomely terrible (or terribly awesome) one-liners, and feature a sweaty man carrying a tree. I like all of these things. I also like the way that you've now decided to allow Netflix to stream you over the internet, and, as such, we're going to let off some steam and feature you on The Screening Room this week.

Seriously now, this is a seminal film for a lot of people. To this day, when I throw a party, I will put either Commando or Cobra on mute and just let it act as background eye candy. Directed by career B-movie auteur Mark L. Lester, Commando is a fascinating anthropological look at the tastes of America in the 80's. When the bombs start dropping, and we want to send one last movie into Earth orbit, I nominate Commando. It would explain everything that anyone could possibly want to know about our culture.

Join us Wednesday at 4 PM PST for a couple hours of the old ultra-violence!

"I lied" is the single greatest line that Schwarzenegger has ever uttered.

Fuck yeah Commando! Perfect Screening Room movie. All I remember when I saw it for the first time are the INCREDIBLY cheesy intro, the tree-carrying, the shed scene, and that motherFUCKING pipe to the chest. God dang it.

Greatest car crash ever recorded on video happens in this film.

Commando was my favorite Arnold movie as a kid. As a huge Arnold fan, I am so in for this screening room!

Love this movie.  Will definitely watch this, but probably not on Wednesday night.  Will watch with the commentary Thursday most likely.

I watched this last night after seeing it mentioned on Twitter as being IW. Just as badass as ever :D

Though after watching that short clip it makes me think the version on NetFlix has been edited slightly. I don't recall some of those shots in that scene when I watched it this weekend. Just more of the lingering shots of the guy missing his arm, and the one with the blade in his neck. I'm far too lazy to confirm though!

EDIT: Well since the video is labeled "UNCUT" I guess that's the confirmation and it's a known thing. Carry on!

Awesome.  I love the random steel drums all over this movie's soundtrack.

There is supposed to be an even more uncut version of that uncut scene where he tells the guy to stop whining after cutting his arm off.

I have to say I think this is my favourite action movie of all time, just because it's so funny and I have no doubt in my mind that it's intentional. Woo Commando!

I don't know about Matrix, but I'll be carrying wood all day on Wednesday!

EDIT: Seriously though, when I was in grade school, Commando (and to a lesser extent Lethal Weapon) was my best friend and I's goto movie. So much so that we had the dialogue in 'Commando' down pat and would reenact scenes while the movie played. I have super fond memories of this film and have watched it easily 100 times in my life.

Netflix opened up the flood gates on New Year's Day for new Instant Watch movies.  Hopefully Freejack is a Screening Room movie soon.
