So Community just wrapped up it's third season, and since we here at Screened can't get enough of it, what are your post game thoughts?
(Oh, and remember, if you haven't seen it yet don't read any further since there will probably be spoilers)
Maybe it's because there were three new episodes tonight, but I thought those were some of the best episodes of the series. I'm probably just on a Community high right now.
They were prepared for tonight to be the final night of Community. They struck some weird balance of closure and cliffhanger during the ending montage. I would not have been upset at the they way they ended it, given the circumstances, if that were the last episode. Those circumstances being that they might get cancelled, instead of knowing for sure that was going to be it.
Does anyone think that they would actually do a "graduation" type episode for the end of the series? That just seems severely cliche. But, then again, Community is just a huge amalgam of tropes.
I thought they were great, a nice contrast to the paintball finale of last year. But the 8-bit video game episode was good but it felt out of place. The previous episodes were leading up to the showdown with Chang, a multi-episode arc, and then the group plays a video game. Maybe NBC switched around the scheduling. And I love Giancarlo Esposito, a phenomenal actor, but he seemed wasted in the episode.
I thought the season finale was fantastic. Honestly as much as I love the show, I thought they ended things so well that if NBC suddenly changed their mind and decided not to come back for another season, then I'd be okay with that. (I'd be okay with the series ending and not coming back, I'd still be mad at NBC for changing their mind)
What a finale. It felt kind of like the last episode. Some of those final scenes had weird implications.
One thing I thought was hilarious was how obvious they made Troy and Britta's crush. As if to poke fun at those who constantly dig up small scenes and looks between random characters trying to say how "obvious" it is the two will get together.
Finally got round to finishing off the last of the 3 episodes - what a fantastic show Community is. Each part of the finale was fantastic, but the 8-bit version was particularly fantastic. The only aspect I wish they'd handled a bit differently was the Britta-Troy relationship. It seemed really rushed and felt a bit awkwardly handled (but not in a goofy charming way). Despite that, I thought they handled the rest of the ending montage pretty well.
It'll be interesting to see if we later consider this to be the 'real' ending of Community, in light of the events over the past few days. Hopefully this isn't the last we see of the quintessential comedic branding of the show.

I was actually just thinking the same thing today. If the new writers on the show disappoint then we can always look back at this episode and say it was the finale we choose to believe.
