Community (the TV show)... I get it, but I don't?

So, this is my first forum post (hey!) and I've already posted a list of my favorite TV shows and shit.

So, Community, this show has gotten an enormous amount of praise since last year. I really like the show, but for the wrong reasons I guess. I don't see it as a great comedy show, what I like about the show is that it has this pretty exciting feel to it and it lets itself do episodes like "modern warfare", but I don't find it to be as funny as most people do. Also, I think Abed can get pretty damn annoying with his endless "this is like a sitcom but it's not!" references.    Uh, I don't know, does anyone else feel this way? or you know, just discuss or whatever.

I really like Community, but I agree that parts of it can become a little overbearing.   What makes the show great though is that sense of self-awareness and how ridiculous the plot devices can be.  It is also amazing how the show doesn't really take itself seriously, but at the same time can touch a nerve and be very emotional; i.e. Troy's birthday or Abed's Christmas.

Yeah, I really liked the episode that centered around Troy's birthday. But I don't know how long they can do the self-awareness bit without it feeling forced, for example last night's episode the part where Jeff is running through the rain to seemingly go visit Annie, he gets to the apartment and it's revealed that it's actually Rich, felt a bit stale, I got the joke and all  but... it just didn't play it right. Because you know a show like Community won't do that cliche, but by evading it, the show is actually becoming a bit more predictable.

I liked Community in its first season. It reminded me a lot of school friends and the shit we got up to, but outside of nostalgia, it's honestly not that great of a comedy. I do like the characters to a degree, but it seems like a few episodes into the second season they've lost a lot of steam. Or at least, the nostalgia factor has worn off a lot. It's a network comedy show, so I guess I shouldn't be too hard on it.

Oh come on, NBC has a pretty solid comedy block (Outsourced and that shitty couples thing don't count).

I never watch Community unless I'm with my friend who's a big fan, but if I do I always get a big laugh out of it.

Ok, that D&D episode was probably the best TV episode so far this year.

It's impossible to like a show for the 'wrong' reasons; liking something is totally subjective, so it's not like you're watching a different show than everyone else. The fact that you like it for what seem like different reasons than everyone else is just proof of how strong the show is. Granted, it's not perfect, and a lot of season 2 has felt really off, but still. Tis brillig.

Which just barely makes up for the psychological scarring I experienced from seeing Chang in blackface. Ohhh.....
