Continuum S1 Ep02 "Fast Times" Directed By Jon Cassar Written By Jeff King

Alot of TV shows just work on a premise without really working out how it actually works logically. It’s just one of those times Film/TV ask you to just go with it. Continuum dedicates a whole episode to firmly establish how the present day cop antics of Kiera Cameron will work. While folding in a couple other rules.

Did you really expect Kiera’s cover as Det. Linda Hamilton to hold up that long? Sure Carlos is bad at his job but his chief isn’t. They quickly uncover all the holes in her story five minutes in. Holding the hero down with paperwork and bureaucratic procedure normally makes a fair bit of tension. Her containment doesn't last long enough for that to happen. It’s all part of her master plan though.

In 2077 Kiera was a Protector, just a little cog in the corporate machine. That want to protect and serve doesn't follow her to 2012. She is more concerned with getting home. This need is made more impactful with the latest flashbacks, that have Rachel Nichols getting across that maternal warm side. It’s that maternal instinct that makes her join forces with Liber8, even if she really wouldn’t mind killing them. If it means getting home the killing can wait. Once things predictably go south her ceasefire ends and she takes out her aggression on the Liber8 members. She would make a good judge in the Dredd universe.

The biggest ???? moment comes when the Liber8 members attempt to once again time jump into the future. Particularly back to a time where they have already lost with the corporations ruling everything. In 2012 they can rule like kings and warn everyone of the corporate run future with plenty of time to win. Liber8 member Matthew Kellog is the only thinking straight and elects to stay in his new home. With Kellog out of the group he can fight the good fight on his own terms and make several key investments in his future. Wouldn’t it be funny if in the future he is one of those corporate overlords he is trying to kill.

All the groundwork for Continuum to work as a cop show is laid. All that needs to happen next is actual police work, which should provide for comedy if Kiera trying to drive is any indication.

C - “Fast Times” was a necessary bit of storytelling for the show to actually start. They made it enjoyable enough to watch. Seriously when do we get flying cars!

@MrMazz: The first two episodes are mostly just set up. It starts to get more interesting after that. Except when they do the "video game related crime" episode.

@RockinKemosabe: Video Game related crime as in it becomes a VR video game (that would be AWESOME) or Video Games cause crimes?
