According to EW, Darth Maul will be returning in the next season of The Clone Wars. (They also have video!)

Well, mostly. Filoni acknowledges that the order to resurrect the Sith Lord came from George Lucas himself, who became more interested in his Phantom Menace creation while developing Savage Opress for the last season of The Clone Wars. Awesome as Maul was in the movie, he barely got to do anything before the old chop-chop. When asked if Maul’s return is motivated by the feeling that he was underutilized in The Phantom Menace, Filoni says, “I think in part.”

Filoni's biggest challenge, though, will come from the legions of fans ready to shout “No way!” at the very idea of a Maul return. But addressing the (un)believability of his survival could make for some interesting drama. “First of all, how does he survive getting cut in half?” says Filoni. “Plus, he fell! And also, don’t forget Obi-Wan Kenobi is still around, so I’m sure Maul wouldn’t be very happy with him.”

Cool! Maul was one of my favorite parts of the prequel trilogy, and I would've loved to see more of him. No word on how he survives into the Clone Wars, but hey: cloning, etc., etc.

I still remember shortly after I saw The Phantom Menace (I was in like third or fourth grade at the time), my friend told me how the next movie was going to be called "Attack of the Clones," and it was going to be about how the Emperor found the two pieces of Darth Maul and cloned each one so now there were two Darth Mauls.

I know Maul's brother made an appearance or two in a few episodes so I think some of the story-line might be building up to this. No clue who they might revive him though. I know cloning a Force users is practically impossible at this time in the universe.

Finally, George Lucas realizes he made a mistake. I don't think anyone would have guessed that Darth Maul would become such a popular character.

I think at one point he showed up in a comic with a robotic lower half that looked similar to Grievous' design. He attacked Obi-Wan and the Lars family on Tatooine which is why Owen wants nothing to do with him. I could see them going that route.

@MetalGearSunny: I haven't caught up to this season (it's currently airing season 4) but it has some really good episodes. Worth watching if you like Star Wars in my opinion.

I'm pretty sure george himself has said that he regrets killing off Darth Maul so quickly. I might have imagined that though.

Either way this is COOL.

Darth Maul got killed too quickly, he was so awesome, the best thing in that first movie

Hopefully its the cyborg Darth Maul from the comics or the reincarnated version of Maul that fought Vader in the comics.

My reaction too. Not that I thought it was bad only that I thought it was meant to hold us over between Ep 2 and 3.

This is the closest I've come to feeling any emotion towards Star Wars in the last 10 years. Cool!

It's fifty-fifty between cyborg and cloning. Also, I should probably watch The Clone Wars. I love the animated shorts, but I haven't gotten around to the TV show proper yet.

Dead things should stay dead. Characters coming back to life are more often than not the lamest of lame cop outs.

Would it surprise anyone to hear that this isn't the first time they've done this?

Yes and somewhere around half way through season 2 it got really good.

Thought this was supposed to be the last season of Clone Wars? Asoka has to die sometime....
