Death Race 2000 is a film set in a semi futuristic world of image over substance that follows an edition of the annual "Transcontinental Road Race" a US spanning race where bonus points for vehicular manslaughter is not only encouraged but necessary in order to win.
Trivia:
Much like the Batmobile in the original Batman TV series,the iconic cars in the film are all standard production cars with cosmetic alterations made(i.e. Frankenstein's car is a Corvette and Joe Viterbo's a Mustang).Similarly to the Batmobile they have become collectors items that have been sold for significantly more than the actual value.
