• Even though the film was released in 1974, "Death Wish 4: The Crackdown" reveals that it is set in 1976.
• The name of Charles Bronson's character "Paul Kersey" was the name of one of the extras hired for the movie. He allowed the use of his name only if he appeared in all possible scenes that required an extra.
• Steve McQueen was originally supposed to play Paul Kersey, but he turned the role down.
