Dig Deeper into Hulk

A film many consider a bit too artistic for such a one-dimensional character, Ang Lee's film tries to give an origin story and show what happens when the Hulk is released on humanity.

I will admit that this Hulk movie has a lot more creative shots, but I just don't like the Hulk as a character.

I thought the reboot was better story-wise, at it relates a lot more to the comic book than this one.
LeonsHellon June 10, 2010 at 5:42 p.m.
This movie was pretty goofy.

I agree that the editing was well done, but other than that I just find the film boring.

This movie was fucking awful, it was just plain out boring
johnnydamageon June 10, 2010 at 5:59 p.m.

this was the movie I defended.

I like The Hulk, and everyone thinks I'm crazy!

I'm not a big fan of multiple shots in one montages.

I hated the editing, it was stupid, did not work for film, only against it. The ending did not feel authentic. For me, the film was stale and boring

I actually really liked the Hulk when it first came out. It had flaws, but it was unique as hell. I think I like the new Hulk movie more, because I appreciate the simple-action movie thing that it goes for (for some reason) and I like Edward Norton, but the 2003 Hulk will always have a place in my mind.

CashBaileyon June 10, 2010 at 6:25 p.m.
I'm all for character-driven filmmakers taking on pulpy material, but this movie was a pretentious cluster-fuck.

I heard a story that when Ang Lee went in to pitch this movie to Universal executives he showed them a box of moss and lichen and said "This is what I want this movie to be..."

And because he was just coming off the mega-success of CROUCHING TIGER they didn't boot him out of the office like they should have.

I think you justified your answer pretty well, Matt. While Ang Lee's Hulk wasn't as action heavy as people were expecting, it was pretty interesting to see the film go more into a psychological drama direction. The movie took itself more seriously than Spider-Man or X-Men before it, which may have impressed some but make others feel it was self-indulgent.

I don't like either of the new Hulk movies.
Msilverbrandon June 10, 2010 at 6:32 p.m.
@DeadDorf: I don't think you are crazy. I just think that Hulk is such a uninteresting, and non-likeable character.
Zaapp1on June 10, 2010 at 6:34 p.m.
I liked it.  I was 13 at the time, but I still enjoyed it.
MichaelBachon June 10, 2010 at 6:38 p.m.
I actually didn't think this movie was so bad. The new Hulk movie is superior, but this one has it's charms. It's got mutated killer hulk poodles!!
RussianVisionaryon June 10, 2010 at 6:42 p.m.
Yeah, no. This movie is some garbage
orshickon June 10, 2010 at 7 p.m.
agreed, totally doesn't deserve the hate it got. Admittedly there were some goofy things about the film, but the story was pretty engaging regardless. Which is more than I can say for the re-boot.
JeffGoldblumon June 10, 2010 at 7:02 p.m.
This movie is terribly terrible.
