When a character has seen some messed up stuff, it's time to have a shower.
The depressed shower scene, which usually resides in the more serious genres of films, occurs in order to express the character's internal pain and struggle. This ranges from desperately scrubbing at the invisible blood that won't wash away to simply standing there pontificating on the things the character has experienced. Most of the time this is used less than subtly; especially more so when they are having the shower with their clothes on.
