• Antonio Banderas actually performed all of his own guitar work.
• Antonio Banderas filmed the bathroom scene before the second bar shootout because Robert Rodriguez didn't like using 2nd unit crews.
• The scenes that included Steve Buscemi and Cheech Marin had to be shot quickly because they could only afford Buscemi for seven days and Cheech for six.
• Because of a low budget, the same two stunt men were used.
• The movie was originally entitled "El Pistolero" to be match the first film ("El Mariachi") but was changed at the request of the studio. Desperado was actually released as "Pistolero" in Mexico.
• The "crotch gun" that is in shown to Carolina in her bookstore is the same gun used by Tom Savini's character, Sex Machine, in "From Dusk Till Dawn" which was also directed by Robert Rodriguez.
• The bar in the opening scene is an actual bar called the Corona Club located in Acuna, Mexico.
• Los Lobos, the band that provided the music, can be seen in the audience during the opening credits.
• Jennifer Lopez tried out for the part of Carolina.
• Carlos Gallardo, Campa, actually played the role of El Mariachi in the previous film, El Mariachi.
