What happened tonight on Dexter....Oh yes. Finally!

This makes up for the rest of the season. I thought about what would happen if Deb walked into the Church, thinking that Dexter is doing his work in order to talk to him some more or tell him about her feelings. I don't know what's going to happen next season. I imagine at least Deb will reveal that she's had suspicions that this is what Dexter's been up to.

This could potentially make for a great 7th season.

It's been coming, especially since last season's finale.

This season had its ups and downs, my favorite moment being when Brian appeared on the beach. I thought the religious angle lost steam towards the end, at least on its effect on Dexter.

Luckily, they finally did something drastic enough to potentially turn the show on its head. It instantly went from, "meh, hopefully next season's better" to "oh crap, bring it on."

That ending, while predictable, was pretty great.

All I can say is fucking finally! I've been waiting for this for a while especially after last season. This season hasn't been great, especially with the Debra being in love with Dexter subplot. That shit is stupid. But like a lot of you saying that last 5 seconds or whatever just took this show to "I have to see the next season" from "meh, maybe I'll watch next season".

poor season but high possibilities for the next one. Also looking forward to whats up with creepy intern guy.

I called the Debra falling for Dexter awhile ago, they wrote her so fragile that I knew it would happen. I'm assuming they intentionally cut out why she arrived to make it a surprise, but yes Debra finding out that Dexter is a serial killer should've been done 2 seasons ago. But really, making her a lieutenant and creating the whole psychobabble sessions to bring it out I thought was ridiculous, it should've just happened, with no buildup, they made it too obvious it would happen either this season, or the start of the next one.

I enjoyed this season. I told myself going into this season that this might be the final season I watch, because season five was terrible. But this season has impressed me. It started really strong, and started to falter after the twist of Geller being dead, but all in all the final episode pulled me back in. But what season five proved is following a huge jump in momentum they can really shit the bed. That said I can't wait to see how this thing plays out. But they need to tread lightly with this Deb loving Dex thing because a lot people might be driven away.

Love how everyones reactions to last weeks hint at a possible incense storyline was all ok now im done with this show only to be reeled back in by the finale. I think the show should of ened around s4 but it seems like with Hall reupping for 2 more years Showtime is finally ready to end this.

I must be an unapologetic Dexter fan but I thought this season was great, maybe not to the heights of season 4 but certainly very good. I actually liked season 5, I feel the weakest season of Dexter was the 3rd season.

It was predictable, as others have said - I called it as soon as Deb started talking about Dexter to the psychiatrist a few episodes ago - but it was a great way to end the season and I'm excited to see where they go with it.

I think this season has been pretty good; nowhere near the heights of season 4, but after a slow start I began enjoying it more and more. At this point I'd be happy with two more seasons, as it looks like it'll probably be.

Well, she's the one that told him to do a forensic sweep, to clear it off or whatever. And he said he'd go there after the Noah's Ark thing, so she probably went to pay him a visit.

I think last season would've been the best time to do the reveal, if only to avoid the groan-inducing moment of being right there and not finding out.

I rewatched that part... you're right... Dexter basically killed him exactly when and where he told Deb he would go...

These writers... it's like you can see them sitting at their writing tables fumbling around.

@freakin9 Oh man, somehow I didn't notice how dumb it was to do the kill there. Oy...

I'm going to march around this thread beating my drum of "Man the novel totally did a better job of this."

This season of Dexter seemed to have a direction for the first half, but the back-end felt disjointed and had many down moments. Episodes where nothing really eventful happened. I think Brother Sam's death came on way too soon, considering they could've done more with the relationship he had with Dexter. However, my big issue with this season is how they handled Deb finding out about Dexter. It's a lame intention, but I hope people in this thread pick it up sometime and read it. It has a much better handle on the situation, and it makes Deb feel more intelligent as a character. It's been six years now, and Deb is now just stumbling onto Dexter being a serial killer? It makes her look incredibly stupid, and when you contrast that with all the serial murders Miami Metro has failed to solve in the TV show, it just makes the entire department look like a joke.

That's part of the novel's appeal, really. How Dexter both aids and uses the department and its resources to catch his prey. It's usually a race against the clock, and it feels more natural than the TV show, where it's 11 episodes of the cops fumbling around like idiots before some amazing piece of serendipity falls into their lap and they clue in.

It may sound like I'm being pretty negative, but overall I enjoyed this season. I needed to give up on Dexter getting back to what made the first two seasons so special to do so, but eh, I'm over it now.

@TheGief: "11 episodes of the cops fumbling around like idiots" > you do have to factor in that Dexter is THE best at what he does. So them not catching on just shows how great Dexter is, as opposed to what they are not.

I enjoyed this season. Had me wanting Dexter to get Hanks Jr. so bad! I enjoyed the twist with the professor. Deb story line: meh. Afterall, she is always falling for the twisted guys.

On another note: I really enjoyed the parenting side of Dexter. Well done.

Hated season 5 and slowly started to feel that this one was becoming very formulaic as well. Glad they finally made the sharp right turn that they have been teasing since season 3, when I thought they would do the whole Dexter gets caught thing.

I recently took the time to blow through all of season 4 in one sitting, and yeah I pretty much agree with what everyone has already said: while I don't really care much for how Debra's character was being written this season, I did like that finale and I'm pretty sure I'm gonna watch next season to see what happens

@TheGief: I read a bit of one of the books, I forget which off the top of my head and I thought it was bad. The whole teaching the kids to be killers thing was just dumb and the idea that Deb knows he's a serial killer and is just cool with it always kinda rubbed me the wrong way since I first heard about it. I hope the show doesn't go to that, or if it does she eventually breaks down and decides something needs to be done about him. Also, based on what I read the author is not a very good writer.

Anyway, yeah, the season didn't feel as intense as many of the others, probably because at this point you can kinda tell what's going to happen and you know that nothing is going to happen to him or any of the other important characters. I also agree that season 3 was the weak point of the series, I can't think of a single part of that season that I really enjoyed. Season 1 was fantastic, probably mostly because it was new. Season 2 was all right. I hated the brittish girl but loved Doakes as the antagonist. Also, the scene where Dexter headbutted him was amazing. Season 3, bleh. Season 4 was just incredible for reasons I probably don't have to state. Season 5 wasn't great, but I didn't hate it as much as other people did. I thought Jordan Chase was kind of interesting and it was nice to see Dexter have another person to interact with, though the idea of a long-term Robin isn't something I can get behind.

This last season was decent, but the Quinn and Batista stuff was largely uninteresting because I never really cared about either of those characters. One thing I hope though, is that Louis(the intern) is more than just some creepy obsessed guy. I developed a theory that he knew something was up with Dexter(he showed him the serial killer portion of his game and made a point of mentioning the Bay Harbor Butcher. He bought the hand from the Ice Truck Killer(Dexter's Brother) case and then sent it to him). I know it's probably wishful thinking, but I think it'd be kind of interesting to have it flip and he's actually hunting Dexter. Either some sort of government official or maybe even as a Dexter-like person.
