Major Plots
The Batman Serials
In the 1943 film serial, Dick Grayson was portrayed by Douglas Croft. This version of the character matched exactly how he was portrayed in the comics at the time. The 1943 serial was followed with a sequel in 1949, starring Robert Lowery as Batman and Johnny Duncan as Dick Grayson. Because Duncan was 29 at the time of filming he had to wear tights to cover up his hairy legs, something Robin in the comics wouldn't wear until Tim Drake became Robin in the 1990's.

In the now classic Batman television series Dick Grayson was portrayed by Burt Ward. The show was a success in it's first two seasons but ratings dropped in it's third season which led to its cancellation. However it wasn't until the show's second season, when it was renamed "The Adventures of Batman and Robin" would he be featured regularly. In The New Batman Adventures Dick is now shown to be Nightwing and works primarily on his own but does team up with Batman, Robin, and Batgirl on several occasions.

In the film Dick and Batman split up their partnership while being influenced by Poison Ivy's pheromone gas, leaving Bruce to deal with Mr. Freeze. Soon after Alfred's niece, Barbara arrives and she finds that he's dying. The two go up against Poison Ivy and are exposed to her pheromones again. The pheromones exposed Dick's resentment towards being called a sidekick and how he wanted it to be Robin and Batman instead of Batman and Robin. However once the pheromones wore off he went to Poison Ivy pretending that he wanted to run away with her, she kisses him thinking that he'll die momentarily due to her lips being full of venom.
