An office Christmas party in Los Angeles goes horribly wrong when thieves take over the whole building, leaving visiting New York cop John McClane to crack wise and save the day.
Trivia:

Die Hard is based on the 1979 novel "Nothing Lasts Forever," by Roderick Thorp, which was a sequel to the novel "The Detective," which was also made into a movie in 1968 starring Frank Sinatra.
