RHCPfan24 Fresh, intelligent, and badass.

I remember it clearly: It was the summer of 2006 and a relatively unknown director, Neil Blomkamp, was chosen to direct a movie based off of Halo, the revolutionary first-person shooter video game. Even at that time, I was unsure if I wanted a Halo movie to come out. After ...

Catastrophic Fooking Prawns!

I remember asking my cousin once have he seen District 9 before, and he said he did and he didn’t get it. Not to mention he only watched half of it and dismissed the movie being boring and couldn’t get the content. I, on the other hand, thought of ...

MrPilkington Blomkamp's original of Johannesburg's untold story.

"There are a lot of secrets in District 9" When that phrase is uttered in the film, I knew of what it really meant. Even though I had just experienced a world of chaos, I knew that it was just one story in a world of many. District 9 is ...

CoolDrMoney The Fly gets a gun

District 9 is a faux documentary chronicling the trials and tribulations government worker Wikus faces as he evolves from oppressor to the oppressed, in a truly horrific manner. The film presents itself as an intelligent action sci-fi thriller. This film will get you thinking, specifically about how cool the guns ...

holabendez A great, intensely paced, fresh film.

There was something about the way it uses the Cloverfield/Documentary style to give the movie a sense of realism that truly adds to the movie experience. That, and I kind of liked the fact the main alien character in the movie is named “Christopher Johnson”. Definitely my favourite South African ...

Adrenaline District 9

You may or may not know the back story; Neill Blomkamp grew up in South Africa before getting into film animation, and then started directing shorts, including one called about aliens in his home city called Alive in Joburg. This caught the eye of people who wanted to make ...

etragedy Makers of 'Transformers' Movies Take Note

District 9 is the kind of sci-fi movie we've been missing. One that is credible, exciting, with big budget effects, well developed characters, and an actual story to tell. You wouldn't think it would be that hard for people who get paid millions of dollars to put those things together, ...
