I don't know much about Doctor What, so I'm not going to pretend like I do. I do know that the latest girlfriend on the show is called Amy Pond, played by Karen Gillan, who gave birth to the Doctor's child, a young man named Rory Williams. Rory is also the man who repairs the Doctor's DeLorean car, with which he travels through time to protect the Rebellion from the forces of the Borg. He also has to make a lot of phone calls in an old phone booth.

I think I got most of that right.

Anyway, Steven Moffat, when he's not racking his brain trying to figure out how he's going to explain the conclusion to the third season of Sherlock when that show finally comes back, has confirmed the speculation that Gillan will be leaving the show in the middle of the next season, but he's also announced that her replacement has already been cast, in the form of 25-year-old Jenna-Louise Coleman:

It always seems impossible when you start casting these parts, but when we saw Matt and Jenna together, we knew we had our girl. She's funny and clever and exactly mad enough to step on board the Tardis. It's not often the Doctor meets someone who can talk even faster than he does, but it's about to happen. Jenna is going to lead him his merriest dance yet. And that's all you're getting for now. Who she's playing, how the Doctor meets her, and even where he finds her, are all part of one of the biggest mysteries the Time Lord ever encounters. Even by the Doctor's standards, this isn't your usual boy meets girl.

I can't say that I've ever heard the name before, but Coleman has apparently had a bit role in the Captain America film, as well as a few BBC television credits, to which she'll be able to add Professor Who some time next year.

Decent actress, she was in a soap over here and she was fine. Glad to be finally rid of Pond

She looks to have a similar thing going on to another cockney actress, Martine McCutcheon.

i havent really watched doctor who, but i assume the revolving door cast makes sense in context with the show? cus i know theres been like 8 different doctors and just as many different girl sidekicks. i dunno. seems weird to me, i should probably watch it lol

Rorie is basically spot on with that description...

I don't think I'll watch the five-thousandth white British chick hang out with the doctor, only this time she's EVEN MORE SPECIAL AND INTEGRAL TO REALITY!

OK that's probably a little harsh and I should probably take a wait and see approach but I'm starting to notice the formulaic nature in the show and when that happens I just get cynical...

The Doctor reincarnates, sorta, when he dies. Also the current series 2005-present are on netflix instant. You should give it a shot. When you get to the end of season 4 there are three specials you'll have to hunt for on netflix instant, unless they've fixed that, that are really worth it.

She gives me a Christina Ricci/Holly Valance feeling.

Lizo's come a long way since Newsround...

Hey, guys - I think she's excited. She came across pretty well. Cute is an appropriate term for what we're seeing here.

Fuck Doctor Who, I want to watch this show.

Oh, and yeah, cute girl is cute. That interview sounded more like a questionnaire though. Zzzzz.

If you're gonna watch it be prepared for some REALLY corny/bad costumes in the first season of the reboot. I mean REALLY ... It's worth sticking with it, though. Emotional payoff and frequent hilarity is guaranteed* (albeit with a few big missteps along the way!)

*= I can only vouch for up until the end of season 4 (incl. the specials, out of which the last one is pretty terrible).

I think that Avengers Assemble would be a great place to show of the new doctor who season if that's whats happening.

Also, having only watched Dr. Who semi-regular, I thought that first paragraph was spoilers.

@ThePhantomStranger:

That's about the only formulaic thing about the show though, it's not like every companion has a similar story or the same personality, Rose, Donna and Amy for example are all pretty different people, and it's not like there hasn't been any males travelling with the doctor, with Mickey, Rorie and Captain Jack to name a few.

It's not even a show where you can assume everyone is going to get out alright in the end considering that even the protagonist can be killed off if Moffat wills it.

Sorry I'm probably being too defensive, I suppose if you are talking about character origins they could be a bit more unique, who knows perhaps they'll mix it up and make her from a different time period or New Earth or something.

The first season had its moments but honestly, you could just jump in with Season 2. You would miss the introduction of Jack and Rose but otherwise there is not a lot that carries over.

From Season 2 and it is has been a great ride and a very clever update of the character.
