Glad he's coming back. I really like it when a Doctor has time to really grow on you.

With that said, Matt Smith is my Doctor. Tennant's episodes just seemed a bit too campy at times and too focused on a love story that I felt wasn't that great. They ruin a perfectly good companion in Martha cause she fawned, and then they basically retconned all of Donna.

Eccleston wasn't around long enough to matter.

Matt Smith has been fantastic. It could be an after effect of the serialized nature of the show, the fact that it's the first series I have seen all the way through, the fact that Amy is so important. All I know is that bow ties are cool.

Not as cool as Fezs ;)

I have never watched a single second of anything Doctor Who related. That probably makes me a bad person.

.... thanks for your contribution to the conversation - two thumbs up dude.

Matt managed to fill some pretty big shoes following David Tennant, I hope he's not planning on going anywhere for at least another 2 seasons.

Ecc was ALWAYS only going to do 1 season.  It was pre-agreed.  And in what was still considered to be a 12-regeneration (13 Doctors) world, I couldn't forgive RTD for it.

When I was about 15 I was in an ABC shop talking to the manager about pending Doctor Who VHS releases, and another customer joined our conversation.  He said how I had started turning off Doctor Who after The War Games, when they started revealing "so much" about the Doctor's past...

I thought he was a crack pot, because for me, Doctor Who was already into its 20th year by the time I was old enough to beg my parents to stay up to watch The Five Doctors, and the Time Lord mythology was just part of Doctor Who.

Now, I feel like the crackpot...

I hate Smith.  I hate Pond.  I don't mind Rory, but his character is just barely above that of Mickey Smith's push-me-pull-me scooby gang... I hate the relationship between Doctor and Pond.  I think mostly it's the writers causing my anger, but if the Ponds don't leave the TARDIS at the end of this season, I will.

I've definitely grown to like Smith, but for me he'll never reach the heights that Tennant LIVED at consistently.

That said, I am liking Smith's seasons better but that is a sum of its parts situation.  I LOVE Alex Kingston, I really enjoy Rory and Amy is second only to Martha for companions to me.

He has done a good job but I want someone new

Awesome, I love Matt Smith as The Doctor. Hes my favorite by far. I seem to be in the minority that isn't all wet for Tennant. While Tennant is good as The Doctor hes the worst of the 2005 series doctors.

Also, i HATED Billy Piper as the companion. The trio(Doctor, Rorie and Amy) right now are by far my favorites

Was this ever in doubt or anything? The current run was half a series, the finale was even listed of episode 7 (i think?) out of ... a bigger number.

This is an order for another series, silly. We knew he'd finish this one out.

@Tartarus well it used to be stated a lot of times it was 13 , or he could be 13 people. the 13th was even hinted at becoming a darker or evil doctor, (trial of a timelord - classic show)
but that also has been under debate because of another classic episode that apparently showed him and his past regenirations (prior to the original doctor) and there was about 15 or so faces shown....

@Rorie while its true you should watch the show as its good, very good in some places, its also true that you should pick just the right episode to jump on with.

I would suggest series 1 episode Dalek , which is a high point of ecclestons acting ability and Father's Day, an episode which is both playing with the ideas of the effects of meddling with time, but also actually has some good emotional character development involved.

For the tennent shows The Impossible Planet , although part of a two parter is quite strong as a solo episode offering too. also worth a look from him are 42 (the length of the show) although i think you already know about this episode and Utopia which has an almost "masterful" (pun intended) from Derek Jacobi... if a little short.

as for matt smith (no relation) start with Eleventh Hour , not because its his first episode but instead because of the sheer fun thats being had by smith himself, his first time in the seat is the most likely time he's going to win you over.

"im the doctor and im worse then everyones aunts!, and thats not how im introducing myself by the way"

Matt Smith is okay, better than I expected.

But he is no Tennant or Eccleston, that's for sure.

More than ANYTHING I want to see a companion from another planet, who is an orphan.  Why?  Is it because 6 original companions were orphans?  No.... it's because of Jackie Tyler... Martha's family... Donna's mother... and Rory....  though Rory is cool... just get rid of Amy...

No more family ties/growing pains/degrassi high in the TARDIS please!

I'd love for Rorie to start watching Doctor Who so that it could be discussed on the podcast and we'd have 'About Last Night' articles. It'd bring a bit of British TV content to the site at least. At the moment all the discussion of American shows is pretty polarizing.
Trailer: Doctor Who Christmas Special

There won't be much Doctor Who until next year, but at the very least we'll have a C.S. Lewis-themed Christmas special to make the wait a bit more bearable. Plus it has robots.
