• The inside of the ice palace was actually made from special wax.
• Omar Sharif originally asked director David Lean for the role of Pavel Antipov. He was stunned when Lean asked him to play Yuri Zhivago.
• Omar Sharif's son Tarek Sharif, played the part of young Yuri Zhivago at the funeral.
• Both Marlon Brando and James Mason turned down the role of Viktor Komarovsky. It eventually went to Rod Steiger.
