A character is shot, stabbed, or otherwise in a condition where he or she may die at any moment. But instead of passing on, as most dying people tend to do, the character will find time to give a dramatic final speech.
A way to make death more dramatic, and a way to heighten the impact of certain information in a plot.
Common examples include the dying character confessing something to another character, or apologizing for something.
