Hi there, Screened Community!
With the launch of the TV data I thought that it would be a good idea to catch up on TV shows and discuss them. With the second season approaching, and the fact that the 1st season only contains 6 episodes, the first show of this TV Club (LIKE BOOK CLUB BUT TV!!!!!!! If you have a better name, please shout out) will be:
Eastbound & Down: Season 1
Eastbound & Down is a show that I love for the humor, and just plain fucked-up-edness of the characters. The series just rapidly gets so much more and more depressing that you pretty much can't help but laugh, and the humor being used as a scapegoat to make you not want to kill yourself.  The episodes flow together well enough to, if viewed as a marathon, work well as a 3 hour movie.

So, the first homework assignment for all you folks to do is to acquire from Netflix, download from iTunes, buy the DVD set, or download elsewhere whether by legal or *errmmm* illegal means and watch the first 2 episodes (appropriately titled "Chapter 1" & "Chapter 2") by August 31st 2010, for our discussion of these episodes!

P.S. Mods, if you feel like this belongs under the Eastbound & Down discussion, feel free to move it.

I have all 6 episodes saved on DVR, HBO has been replaying them like once a week (on Mondays?). I'll be digging into these very soon, I really enjoyed this show from what I've seen.

I watched the first 3 episodes on my buddy's DVD a while back, and they were pretty hilarious overall. The show was a bit uneven at times, with some boring scenes mixed between "keeling over in pain" funny bits. I never truly appreciated Danny McBride until I saw this show.

Yeah, Danny McBride definitely shows his chops in this show, as both a serious actor and comedic. He also co-wrote the show, for whatever that's worth.

Okay,so:
I do want this thing to work out, so I will delay this whole shindig to next Tuesday, September 7th, so people can acquire their copies of this by any mean, and watch the first 2 episodes.
And if you are interested in this, please say so in the forum.

Was this originally in the TV forum? I think it belongs there more than in a form where it's probably not going to be seen by anyone. Sorry if a mod moved it.

I've seen all episodes numerous times, and they're on HBO on demand. I'm ready and pumped.

I thought the show was really uneven.  It was laugh out funny often enough to make me come back for season 2 though.

@Rorie: Yeah, it was, if you want to (or anyone else) move it back, feel free.
And since there's some attention to this, and the 2nd season coming up on the 26th, I'll make the new date for starting this Thursday, Sept 16th, and watch the first three episodes then (the first three are on the first disc of the DVD), and then watch the 4th, 5th, and 6th episodes by Thursday, Sept 23rd.

Jody Hill knows how to make me laugh and feel really, really bad. I love that man.

show is great, and season 2, based on the trailers i've been seeing, mainly the one with kenny shooting a gun, will be AMAZING... hopefully. I really hope Jody can bring out the drama, too. They set out to make a tragedy, so I want more of that.

@nofx4208:  Trailers??
I would like links. All I've seen are the K-Swiss promos Danny McBride did as Kenny Powers. And I'm definitely looking forward to the darker tone of the second season. I wouldn't really call season 1 dark, just... depressing.
And Jody Hill said he'd direct 4 out of 7 of the episodes for season 2, and David Gordon Green would direct the rest. I would hope for season 3 (????) that they would bring maybe some new directors in, but I'm not complaining with those 2 behind the camera.

EDIT 3: hey, here's another trailer.

@BjornTheUnicorn:  excellent! Shame, I really love Adam McKay as a visual director, and he did a good job with his episode last season... maybe season 3... and yeah, more new directors! Get Rueben Fleischer or Miguel Arteta to direct some episodes, those two are great! I just saw Youth in Revolt, and it looked awesome! I mean, maaaaaaybe some of the story/character stuff could've been worked on (despite me loving it's dark tone), but it was still visually well done!

I can't find the particular one I saw on TV a while ago, but here's one with Kenny on a mo-ped, with the same song from the other commercial I'm thinking of of. And yeah, it's definitely more depressing if anything, and I love it when Jody Hill does depressing. I'm the insane guy who loved Foot Fist Way and Observe and Report, dammit!

edit: oh, yeah, apparently Don Johnson might be in this season... well... Jody said they're trying to cast for Kenny's dad... OH SHIT.

edit 2: here's an on set video
