The Rated R Superstar is one of the most decorated champions in WWE history. He was forced to retire from in-ring action in 2011 from serious spinal injuries.

Overview

Edge debuted in World Wrestling Entertainment on June 22, 1998 on RAW. He would make his entrance through the crowd before matches and would beat up random people on the streets as he walked around aimlessly.

Edge would soon enter a feud with Gangrel, a vampire, who brought Christian, Edge's brother, into the WWE. They would get Edge to join them and form The Brood. The Brood was later abducted and joined The Undertaker and The Ministry of Darkness. In May 1999, they left the Ministry after The Undertaker tried to punish Christian for revealing the location of an abducted Stephanie McMahon and Edge & Gangrel saved him.

Later that year, Edge and Christian were betrayed by Gangrel as he formed The New Brood with The Hardy Boyz. This feud would lead up to a Triangle Ladder Match at WrestleMania 2000 including Dudley Boyz. Edge and Christian won the match, which would become the match that led to the creation of the TLC (Tables, Ladders, and Chairs) Match.

Edge and Christian transitioned their characters from being goth to comedic characters. They would do a "five second pose" in the ring "for the benefit of those with flash photography" and would successfully capture the WWE Tag Team Championship on several occasions.

In 2001, Edge started moving into singles competition when he won the King of the Ring tournament, leading to a jealous Christian turning on him. Edge would capture the Intercontinental Championship on a few occasions, as well as the WCW United States Championship during the Invasion.

In 2004, Edge became a heel and obsessed with the World Heavyweight Championship. At WrestleMania 21 he gained a golden opportunity by winning the first ever Money in the Bank Ladder Match. Almost a year later at New Year's Revolution he cashed in his title shot against John Cena after he had competed in an Elimination Chamber Match, winning his first WWE Championship.

In 2006, a reformed D-Generation X was becoming a thorn in Edge's side, so he enlisted the held of Randy Orton to form Rated-RKO. They thwarted DX for some time and won the World Tag Team Championship.

In 2007, Edge forced Mr. Kennedy to defend his Money in the Bank title shot against him on RAW, which Edge ended up winning. Later that week on SmackDown he cashed it in to win the World Heavyweight Championship from The Undertaker and switch brands.

He became involved in a relationship with SmackDown General Manager Vickie Guerrero for his own gain and formed the group La Familia with her, Curt Hawkins, and Zack Ryder. As he and Guerrero were preparing to get married in 2008, it was revealed he has cheated on her with the wedding planner, Alicia Fox. This ended their relationship and led to a feud, turning Edge face.

In 2011, Edge was forced to retire from in-ring action after spinal injuries he suffered during his career got worse. He was the World Heavyweight Champion at the time and had to vacate the title. He is currently at the side of his friend Christian on SmackDown as he pursues to regain the title that was so important to Edge.
