Biography

Ellen Page was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada on February 21, 1987. Her mom Martha Philpotts is a teacher, and her dad Dennis Page is a graphic designer. She went to public school around Halifax and graduated from Shambhala High, which is a private school taught from an Eastern perspective, including meditation and yoga.

Page's first film role was at age ten in the TV movie Pit Pony. In 2004, she appeared in the independent European film Mouth to Mouth. She played a young, naive American girl who is drawn into a group of street rebels that have a dangerous secret.

2005's Hard Candy was her break out role. In this film, Page played a 14 year girl who flirts with an online predator and later tortures him in her house, using various cat in mouse games. The positive reviews of her performance earned her even more roles.

Page's first blockbuster was X-Men:The Last Stand. As the fan favorite Kitty Pryde (Shadowcat), she is the member of the X-Men team that takes on Magneto at Alcatraz and successfully stops the "unstoppable" Juggernaut, using her ability to "phase" through solid objects. This movie grossed $459.4M internationally.

Ellen Page was nominated for her first Oscar and Golden Globe for her portrayal of pregnant teenager Juno MacGuff in the surprise Fox Searchlight hit Juno. Even though she lost to Marion Cotillard for Best Actress, Page received rave reviews for his honest and hilarious portrayal of the teen.

After her success in Juno, Page featured in several limited release films. These included Smart People, where she plays the stuck up, conservative high school student Vanessa Wetherhold and An American Crime, which was shown at the 2007 Sundance Festival and was later syndicated on Showtime.

In 2009, she played the lead role in Whip It!, a coming of age story about a Texas girl who joins a roller derby team. As Bliss Cavendar, Page provided a believable look into the wild world of roller girls. This film only made $16.6M at the box office but got great reviews from critics (84% Tomatometer).

Page's latest role was in Christopher Nolan's masterpiece Inception. She is the character Ariadne, who creates "dream levels", so that the dream thief Cobb (Leonardo DiCaprio) can plant ideas in people's heads. This film is Page's highest grossing yet, earning $823.4M.

Ellen Page is slated to appear in Super, an IFC film about people wanting to be every day superheroes.  She is also attached to the 2011 HBO show Tilda.
