Allegra Geller, the greatest game designer in the world, creates a game so realistic that gamers can't even tell what's reality and what's just a game. In the game world (eXistenZ) there is a war going on between realists and people who wants to escape reality through the game.

Trivia:

During the filming of "EXistenZ" Jennifer Jason Leigh was called back to re-shoot her scenes in her previous project "Eyes Wide Shut". she couldn't make it due to scheduling conflict, so her part in the movie was recast.
