up to her in front of his school as she plays a game. Mamimi notices his new headband and begins to obsess over it. From afar, Naota's classmates heckle and gossip about the situation. Naota reluctantly allows Haruko to take an X-ray of his head, where he finds out that his brain is missing. Also, he has an even larger growth on the back of his head. She calls him a "freak" for losing it. When questioned again about her identity, she reveals herself as a "1st Class Space Patrol Officer." Naota calls the title lame, which results in him being assaulted with the guitar. Haruko states that the robot that came out of his head must have been made at Medical Mechanica, yet the reasoning for it coming out his head is still unknown. As she continues to poke at his head, Naota wonders about the truths he has been told, and how truth they really are.

Naota's father is bossing the robot outside the house. Naota yells at him for not keeping the robot inside, so as to not raise suspicion among their neighbors. His father begins to ramble on about the contrast between man and machine. Haruko peers through her goggles and mentions that a number of fires have occured recently, even the day before. Mamimi is seen playing the game underneath the bridge during a rain. Naota finds her to get her to go to school, but she is oblivious. She calls her new cat Takkun, which is also her pet name for Naota. She calls herself "a god, a protector of the weak." Naota notices the similarity between her words and the game she's been playing, Lord Canti. He heads off.

Haruko is happily speeding around Mabase, until she looses control of her vespa and crashes into the side of Medical Mechanica. She looks on with a glaze at her broken vehicle as two policemen try to make sense of the situation. One policemen takes a perverted glance at her skirt before getting hit in the head by Naota, who has brought vehicle parts. When they question his relation to her, he claims to be her guardian to planet Earth. She agrees, then fixes her bike.

Mamimi is playing with her cat underneath the river before noticing the fake halo worn by the robot. Using her camera to look at it from a distance, she also notices the fake black wings. She likens it to the god in her video game and begins to pursue it up the hill. She ends up at a ruins site, with burnt debris everywhere, including the skeleton of a building. The robot climbs it to the top as she watches intently. It spreads its arms and is struck with lightning, then glides upwards towards the sun. Amazed, she says that the god had saved her in the past. Haruko races along the side of a mountain with a terrified Naota in tow. She jokes how he is scared even though he has no brain.

Back at Naota's house, Haruko, Mamimi and Noata kill time until the robot descends from the sky in a spectacular lights display. Mamimi worships it, calling the robot "Lord Canti, god of the black flame." He was sent on an errand to get a drink for Haruko and a nudie mag for grandpa, but messes up on both. Mamimi wishes that they would treat the "god" with respect, but Naota cuts her down for believing her video game. The next day, Naota and his classmates make their way to the burnt building. They claim it was a school destroyed long ago by an unknown arsonist. As they continue on their way to school, they see Mamimi washing her clothes in the river. His classmates begin to gossip about her, and she turns around and stares Naota dead in the eye. He is frozen.

It is nighttime, and Naota and Mamimi are crossing the bridge. She stops to light a cigarette when the game falls out of her pocket.  In narration, Naota explains the game as an arsonist sent by Lord Canti to burn a city named Endsville to the ground to rid the devils. Haruko wakes up in Naota's room, and contacts the unknown person. She says that she "recruited an enemy robot," Canti, but cannot deliberate on anything else. She opens the window to witness a huge fire in the distance, with sirens blaring. Naota thinks it is at the riverbend, but realizes Mamimi's disappearance and searches for her. His memory allows him to understand that his brother met Mamimi on the day of the fire, as he helped her escape. He finds her in front of the burnt schoolhouse, meditating in a ring of lit cigarettes.

Not sure of what to do, he hands her the video game, but she refuses. When he asks if she attended the school, she claims to have hated her experience there. Noticing the large fire, she says that "Endsville is burning," possibly inferring that she caused the fire. She drifts towards Canti and kisses him for absolution. Naota's head begins to pulse, and Haruko speeds toward the scene. A large blue mech bursts out of his new growth and begins to reak havoc. It is significantly powerful than Canti, and as it slams Canti around the wings and halo fall off. Haruko swings at it with her guitar to no avail as she gets tazered. Canti swallows Naota whole, and Mamimi berates it for doing so. It turns red and

morphs into a cannon. It takes aim at the blue mech hurtling towards it and fires, tearing through its core. Haruko takes a final swing, and there's an explosion. Canti turns blue again and "disposes" of Naota's body.  Haruko makes an escape at the sound of sirens, but Naota and Mamimi are locked in a gaze. Naota becomes determined to be there for Mamimi forever.
