| 1. Argo The movie that has won virtually every award this year and is likely to take home the Academy Award for Best Picture. In what is now likely one of the biggest snubs in Oscars history, Ben Affleck is not even in the race for Best Director. The movie follows the true life covert operation to rescue six Americans during the 1979 Iran hostage crisis. The ability to make a movie exciting and incredibly suspenseful, all while the audience knows exactly what is going to happen, is near brilliant. Argo also captured its period well -- watching it is a bit like going back in time. | |
| 2. Monsters, Inc. While the 3-D release of Monster's Inc garnered the lowest box office of any recent Disney 3D release, it still reeled in a good chunk of money for Pixar and the Mouse House. The new edition of the flick raises some questions…namely, does the DVD come with glasses? Do you have to buy your own? I'm confused. | |
| 3. Sinister This movie has an extremely terrifying trailer. So much so, I got chills just from watching it online. Ethan Hawke is a crime novelist who discovers a box of disturbing home movies. Shortly thereafter, Hawke and his family find themselves starring in some horrifying home movies of their own. Creepy. | |
| 4. Anna Karenina The latest adaptation of the Anna Karenina novel, starring Keira Knightley and directed by Joe Wright. The duo has collaborated several times (Pride and Prejudice and Atonement) and seem to have a pretty solid working relationship. Personally, I found this movie incredibly boring, but keep it is not my favorite genre. Perhaps it is yours? | |
| 5. Fun Size A teen comedy featuring Nickleodeon star, Victoria Justice. I'm not sure you need to know anything more than that. | |
| 6. For a Good Time, Call... These two young ladies would like get all up in your phone sex business. | |
| 7. Game of Thrones The best news about the DVD release of the second season of Game of Thrones is that it means that we are getting even closer to the premiere of Season 3 on HBO. Also, if you haven't watched it yet…..watch it now! Tyrion Lannister orders it so. | |
| 8. Battlestar Galactica: Blood and Chrome In case you missed the new two hour series online…or on SyFy….you have one more option: it is now available on DVD. If only it were worthy of over-saturation... | |
| 9. Atlas Shrugged: Part II @obscurefan's favorite movie is now out on DVD, guys! | |
| 10. The Terminator Remastered and brought into the future for the first time since 2006. He'll be back! |
