Hey dudes! Here's today's Blu-Ray and DVD release list. Read em and weep!

DVD

1. Sex and the City 2

MY EYES! THE GOGGLES DO NOSINK! To be perfectly blunt (if my review wasn't enough), this is a terrible abomination of a film that should be witnessed only by those masochistic enough to endure a Dante's Inferno-level of pain and suffering.

2. The Girl Who Played with Fire

I confess that I wonder if I didn't shortchange this film a bit in my review, but when I think about it, I remember that amazingly, AMAZINGLY awful ending and I think, "Yep, I called that one pretty good." This is coming out on DVD in advance of the third film's release in theaters this week, so you can brush up on the middle of the trilogy should you need to.

3. Winter’s Bone

I confess that the name of this movie ALWAYS makes me giggle. Still, I'm greatly looking forward to it. Certainly Alex liked it a great deal.

4. Back to the Future

Trilogy time! All three movies come to blu-ray in advance of some special screenings this weekend. These movies are OK. Aw, who am I kidding - they were seminal childhood experiences. Except maybe the third one.

5. Wild Grass

I have heard nothing but mixed opinions about this "romantic thriller" from France. When American audiences are rating your subtitled film less than 40% on the Rotten Tomatoes meter, that can't be a good sign, can it?

6. South of the Border

Oliver Stone's contentious documentary about South American politics seems destined to be, well, contentious.

7. Lake Placid 3

Is this a SyFy Original Movie? Oh, wait, yes it is. "Starring Yancy Butler" should tell you all you need to know at this point.

8. CSI: NY

THE COMPLETE SERIES YOU DON'T CARE ABOUT. Go ahead, make my day. Or my GUI interface in visual basic to trace your IP address.

9. Alien

This is like the third time they've released the Alien Anthology, but this is the first time it's in FUTURISTIC BLU-RAY!

10. Paths of Glory

I confess that I've never seen this, widely regarded as Stanley Kubrick's first important film. I want to. Maybe I will, now that it's coming to Blu-Ray?

Watching SaTC : The Movie is an XMas tradition in my household. Get really drunk and scream at the TV. I'm looking forward to the 6 hours of suffering.

I've seen Paths of Glory twice in college, and its certainly a different kind of film about war. Very dark Kubrick style as per usual.

Can you survive a bullet in the head? The answer is yes, apparently. According to one of the movies on this list, at least.

I'll let you guess which one.

Hint: It would be Sex in the City 2, but you would be the one shooting yourself in the head. Plus, then someone would actually die.

It always bugged me the Lake Placid movies were set in Maine when there's a Lake Placid, FL which has enough lakes next to creepy, secluded woods to be a perfect setting for a horror movie like that.

I thought Paths of Glory was pretty poor-- it's a very black and white moral tale where the good guys are so good that they have clefts in their chins, and the bad guys twist their mustaches and laugh like Frenchmen.

And you forgot a movie dude!

YES! I'm stoked to see a non-VHS dubbed copy of this movie.

also forgot :

which is a dreamy little slasher film that proves that blu-ray even makes 16mm look good.

Fuck! I can't decide between Winter's Bone, Alien Anthology, or Back to the Future. Decisions!

Let's see...take all of the content from the Alien Quadrilogy DVD set (that's already a ton of stuff), upgrade the movies to full HD, add in new content like more commentaries, add in all of the cut footage from the Quadrilogy documentary section on Alien 3 that actually shows David Fincher's frustrations while making that movie (over 20 minutes worth), add in a couple of the older documentaries that didn't make the Quadrilogy set (Alien Legacy & Alien Saga), add in some of the features previously only on the laserdisc.....and you have a freaking amazing Bluray set for the Alien movies.  I am definitely gonna have to pick that up.

The Digital Bits has a great review of the set here (they call it the best Bluray set since Blade Runner: The Final Cut):

Paths of Glory is a great film however I wouldn't call it his first important film. One year prior he directed The Killing, which used non-linear storytelling, and was most likely one of the  influences on Tarintino in making Reservoir Dogs.

I will be getting Winter's Bone. Can't wait to watch it. It never played anywhere near me.

Edit: Well scratch that, it isnt out here until Jan 31st. Great.

The Back to the Future blu ray set is a horror show. This packaging is a mess with lots of scratched discs. The packaging is so bad that Universal has put up a video on youtube to explain how to get the discs out without scratching them. Plus the movies have been DNRed to death taking out all the film grain that provides texture making everything look like its made of wax.
